Chabenda Hi Arno, The '72 in the photo has a slightly slimmer neck than the '73 ('72 has the black bridge pick up) and a narrower body. On both guitars, measuring from the base of the nut I get a neck thickness of 21.5 -22mm. Measuring inside the 12th fret I get 24-24.5mm. Width at the nut is 40.5-41mm. The '72 is stamped by Chambers and Berry inside. I had a Jazz bass and telecaster, all the same 3 colour sunburst and all very nicely built by Messrs Chambers and Berry. I collected a lot of info off any old Fender or Gibson that came across my path and still have it in a file. The '73 has two string trees instead of one and the pickup covers are made out of a different material. Apart from the wear marks on the paint the '73 feels like new with minimal fret board wear. I had a refinished '65L series with an incredibly slim neck and, as a result, the funkiest sound. Cheers, Chabenda
IceCreamMan My new American standard , 2011 model. Only mod thus far is to deck the bridge as the floating thang not my cup of tea. Spent an hour 2 setting it up a bit , lowered string height , set intonation the usual stuff ,nothing hectic. Plays very very smooth as a new guitar should ?

Hammeron Sorry for the quick hijack/digression here due to the Zim connection. This is the cab we use for the vocal PA. I found where it was built to be interesting.
aubs1 This is an old pic, quite a bit has changed since ....... all Standard USA Strats ...... they all now have locking tuners, Wilkinson trems etc and of course, "Candy" has the Kinman Woodstock Plus pups fitted. Below is my US '57 RI Strat ...... this one stays stock standard.

DonovanB Auds, Your EE rating has gone down. No Rosewood necks? @Hammeron, I've had a scarab cab. Ended up rebuilding it though. I thought I'd never see that brand again. wow
Chabenda Hammeron wrote Sorry for the quick hijack/digression here due to the Zim connection. This is the cab we use for the vocal PA. I found where it was built to be interesting. I remember those Scarabs. They were built by a Mr. Hastings. He used to make amplifiers and guitars too. He was a very clever man and built some good valve amps. He didn't like me much, he used to have a light blue, late sixties Telecaster, with a factory Bigsby, leaning in the corner of his office and I used to harrass him mercilessly for it until eventually he told me in no uncertain terms where he would stick it if i didn't push off. I think that most of the cabs used Philips HP8 12" speakers. The last Scarab that I had had been parked in a garage for years and stank of frying rat excreta once it warmed up! The guy who bought it off me didn't want to pay the outstanding balance as he thought there was something wrong with it!

chris77 Nice! Mine's a '96 as well, but just a regular model. Were the 50th anniversary models all maple capped with gold hardware or is yours part of an even more limited run within the limited run? Looks like a keeper for sure, congrats on your new baby 8)

Looks like a keeper for sure, congrats on your new baby 8) They made 2500 of the Limited ones, there are a few little upgrades including staggered pole pups (American standard 50th pickups according to the spec sheet) and gold hardware. Each guitar is numbered. EDIT: I just read your post again. The limiteds are all gold, they all were the same colour and spec, no variants.
IceCreamMan Made some cosmetic changes and gave it a good clean, new strings and mini set up ..... damn, plays like butter again..... At some point i want the playboy logo airbrushed on it , sacrilige i know but there you have it...1st gig i ever played at there were playboy logo's everywhere so its like a remembrance of that, nothing more ....pity 8) i call it Noir Triple...... blackie was taken apparently ?
Chabenda That is a lovely fretboard! It is funny looking at a Left Hand Drive, the head stock decals take a bit of getting used to.
