Norman86 love seafoam green myself, but im not a fan of the matching headstock! but otherwise, beyootiful guitar ?

ZarK MikeM wrote Tone isn't all about looks either. Good on you Zark ? Looks like a really fun guitar. ? For some reason she sounds and feels better to me than any of my previous Strats. What comes to mind when I pick her up is mix of cream soda milkshake, marshmallows and a 60's VW surf green combi... ? Her inherent tone is simply sublime...
Gerard-Becker This is my American Deluxe Strat . Serial - z7022537 Mods - Three Vintage Noiseless™ pickups, active mid-boost (25 db) and TBX™ circuits same as the Eric Clapton model that Fender make . No interesting story , this guitar is just one hell of a strat
Chabenda I have a '72 that I have owned for over 20 years. I swapped her in Harare for an Aria Pro II . The Strat had acoustic strings on it and sounded really crap through the amp so the Aria looked like a great deal! There was a small area that needed touching up with black nail polish but otherwise the paint was good. She has been fitted with brass saddles, an old Seymour or Dimarzio (not sure what it is!) and I have rewired the three way switch using the first tone control as a volume for the center pick up and the second tone as a master tone. I have owned a '63 in Lake Placid blue and '65 L series amongst others and the '72 has the best feel and tone out of all. The worst was the '63 that. although the neck was a B, felt like a baseball bat and sounded very hard. Interchanging the necks between the '65 and '63 had an incredible effect on the sound. I currently have a '73 belonging to a friend and the difference between the two '70's in terms of feel and quality is also amazing. There are definitely some that are better than others. Now to try and post photos! Failing dismally ☹ Help please! this old fart can't up load his fotos!

Chabenda This was my '63 L series. I bought two L series for Z$1600.00 in the late '80s - early '90s. I used to have hair too!

Of course I have no idea what a Zim$ was worth in the late '80s - early '90s. All I know is that in later years you couldn't keep track from one month to the next but at that stage I suppose no amount of Zim dollars would buy you a guitar. Gosh, you couldn't even find a bag of rice in the supermarkets, let alone an American Strat.
Chabenda I think that is was about USD250. Not too bad for two vintage strats! I eventually sold the '65 to a friend for Z$1600 and he sold it to the first guy that came along in the UK for 1200 pounds. It had been refinished but was amazing as far as sound and playability went. There were a heck of a lot of '60s and early '70s Fenders around in Zim in those days. Plenty of old Fender amps too.
Arno-West Chabenda wrote '72 & '73 Love those. Awesome, well-worn as well. You can see they've been used for what they were intended for. Awesome stuff. Tell me, do these also have an unusually thin neck or do they have the "normal" chunky Strat neck. My '73 has a paper thin neck and I've never come across another Strat with the same neck...
