USA Stratocasters of GFSA

Don't know if a thread like this already exists, if it does, my apologies. I tried this a while ago on FB, but that turned out to be a waste of keystrokes. So I've decided to try again.... I am intrigued to see how many Strats there are floating about in SA, who's got the oldest one and so forth. Post a pic of your Strats, give short description and let's see how many we can get and how far back we can go. There are a few rules: 1. ONLY AMERICAN STRATS 2. Include serial number and year (if you want to date the stick, go to Fender.com, they have an instrument dating facility) 3. Where or who you bought it from and for how much. 4. Any technical mods. 5. Any interesting history behind your guitar. BANANACASTERS built from USA parts are also allowed.....but you must specify parts. I'll be the first. Here's mine.... 1973 Fender Stratocaster (USA) Serial number: 519746. Bought it in 1995 from Music Connection for the royal sum of R2500-00. Previous owner was Paul Hughes (from 80's hair band, The Helicopters) PuP's: Neck: Some Hotrod Blues thing, given to me as a birthday present by a buddy Middle: Fender Lace Sensor Bridge: Seymour Duncan PAF Humbucker It has a coil tap/phase switch installed for the Humbucker. Graphtech saddle, nut and string-guides installed in 1999, haven't broken a string since then. This Strat has an unusually thin neck, I have never come across another Strat, vintage or new, that has a neck like this one. I don't know what the reason for this is. I recently saw on the Fender website that they now do a 70's Re-Issue Strat and it looks exactly like the one I have. Guess what is at the top of my shopping list now.....here's a pic of the Re-Issue. Mmmmmm.......nice.

Wayne Kramer signature strat ?

http://www.fender.com/en-US/products/waynekramer/models.php?prodNo=013455

Fender introduces a replica of the starred-and-striped Stratocaster guitar that infamous MC5 guitarist and Detroit proto-punk Wayne Kramer used back in the late 1960s and early 1970s to kick out the jams and kill hate. It bears his distinctive U.S. flag finish, with a red-and-white striped body and white-stars-on-blue-background pickguard and headstock.

Special features include a roaring Seymour Duncan® ’59 humbucking middle pickup and a commemorative neck plate engraved with “This Tool Kills Hate.” Other features include an alder body, lacquer body finish, maple neck with C shape and large ’70s-style headstock, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with 7.25” radius and vintage-style frets, vintage-style single-coil Stratocaster neck and bridge pickups, American Vintage hard-tail string-through-body bridge, Fender/Schaller® vintage-style “F” tuners and chrome hardware. Deluxe gig bag included.

Hate to ask, but what do positions 2 and 4 sound like?

Nice looking guitar, so when are you getting your matching SG ?

Here is my 2005 American Deluxe Ash Strat in Cherryburst:-

She is a bit on the heavy side for a Strat.
Pictures are a bit old and I should really rty and take some more "artistic" shots, but you get the general idea!!!!

This is the main reason that I am selling the American Special Strat which is for sale on the Forum here:-

Yet ANOTHER unashamed plug for my attempts to sell my little Candy Apple Red 2009 AMERICAN Special Strat with Texas Special Pickups etc. etc. etc.

Oh, my giddy aunt! That is gorgeous! Is the pickguard cream pearl, or is it just the lighting?

evolucian

I have that same porno pickguard... we're brothers ?

GaryMac

Its the one that she came with from the Fender factory.
Not sure about porno scratchplate, I refer to it as Mother of Toilet Seat!!!!

Some more:-

She has the S-1 switching and the locking tuners.

All standard as she came from Corona.

Yeah that looks like cream pearl - has a yellowy tint to the colour. It's relatively rare (as is the parchment pearl I used for my Strat).

Ok... then we're not brothers... *goes to find another family member*

Mine's not cream, so yours is more special. Would have liked a cream one in this case, cos my git colour is creamy. Funny thing is... my bassist bought himself a 70's jazz bass - and its cream as well with that scratchplate... So we're gonna look like twins on stage... good times... fml. The sound is gorgeous though.

That's really nice! I'm leaning heavily towards the Vintage Pearl on Warmoth's site, although a can't seem to shake my gas for a tortoise one either.

That Vintage Pearl from Wormoth is awesome, I've seen Roy's pickguard in the flesh and I'm sold. Gotta get one for my Tele... 8)

I have 2 USA strats and 2 Jap strats .
The 1983 strat is an Elite with active electronics and the other USA one has the S1 switching with a humbucker in the bridge.
The Jap strats are more traditional and IMHO they are better than any USA strat I have ever owned.
Now if we want to talk about old guitars then I will have to mention the "G" guitars I own but that is for another topic !! ?
