I keep on reading all over HC Forums and many other US based Guitar & Amp forums how dirt cheap used 5150/6505 heads go for.

Even on eVilleBay they are going for 500-600 USD all day long.

How much can we expect to pay for used (albeit GOOD cond) 5150/6505 head these days ?
And how often do they pop up used over here ?

Thanx Guys
they are here but only now and then.

i've seen one the other day for R6000 i think, but it was modified.
the 6505's is second hand anything from about R10 000 that i have seen
There was a 6505 for sale in the junkmail a month or so back with bad tubes and a crackling that developed once the amp had been turn on from standby mode. He wanted R6500 with these problems.

I've seen a few pop up over a 2-3 year period.

PRICEY amp new! I got one for about R16k new a few years ago. I beleive they are around the R20k mark now ??? gotta love SA ?

I can say that it is a great amp, especially if you into the HC drop tuning vibes
I got a 6505 for sale. Rarely been used. Mint condition. R9800. We replaced all the poweramp tubes as well.
It's friend's amp actually. He lives in England but asked me if he can leave the amp with me to sell it.

OUCH . . . i was hoping it would be a little less for a 2nd hand head.

10K is still alot off money for me.
I could have had a Marshall VintageModern head for 10K brand new - but did not act fast enough.

Not that much into todays modern drop tuned metal.
More into Classic Rock, but, with a diff flavour.

Everyone is going the Marshall JCM (and, and, and) route for Classic Rock (and for good reason, i have to add), but i do not want to follow the flock of sheep either.
I want my own unique spin/tone on the Great 70's Classic Rock songs.

              Les Paul + SG --->Tone Bender --->Peavey 6505 into 4X12 with GREENBACKS.

I am asking everyone, not just b1scu1t. (...oh and where are you located mate ?)

What is the tonal diffs between the 5150s & 6505s ?

                  I'm in PTA North.

Well they're actually identical to the 5150, but component differences between then and now apparently make them sound a little different and people say the 5150s sound better. The tube amps from many years ago apparently always sound better than newer models. ?

The 5150 is a quite rare and sought after now and I don't think anyone would sell one especially if they know just how lucky they are to have it so it will take a whole lot of money to convince someone to sell it hehe.
When Van Halen stopped playing with Peavey in 2005, Peavey changed the 5150's name to 6505 in celebration of their first 40 years, 1965-2005.
If you want a budget 6505, try out the Bugera 6262. The circuits on the lead channel are apparently identical (perhaps to the 6505+?), but the Bugera is made in China and uses cheaper components (and cheaper labour). The clean channel is quite different (I prefer the Bugera clean though!). I've never had the chance to try a 5150 or 6505 myself, but I've watched enough comparison videos and sound clips to tell that the differences between them come down to personal preference, rather than one amp being outright better than the other. But that's on videos and sound clips...

Don't let the "cheap Chinese clone" tag sway you, let your ears decide.

I've noticed that about older vs. newer amps !
I also did not know that the 05 in 6505 was referring to the date.
I remember reading somewhere (HC Forums ?) that the 6505 was slightly tighter in it's gain voicing, than the older 5150s, or something like that !

Ah yes . . . i actually tested/tried one of those Bugeras (years ago, whn they just came out over here), but that was long before i started liking some of the Hi-Gain sounds.
I a much more of a low to medium gain kinda guy.
I actaully tested/played on one yares ago, just when they came out, and remember i was not too impressed with it back then. Play'ed through a matching Bugera 4X12 cab.
It is also probably because weeks before that, i heard an old block letter 5150 2X12 combo, that was in the same store, For Sale as a 2nd hand combo.

Slightly OT : a Bugera that did impressed me was the 1960 head (into a Marshall 1960 cab)
