the short version (the long version is posted elsewhere on the site) ....... i bought a old 2nd hand ELK ES30 amp which was form late 60's with point to point wiring ect , so took it to JP le roux to originally restore to the ELK amp it was..but the circuit proved very faulty and JP suggested a "rebuild" mod to make it more like the fender amps i love so much ...........
right so for full technical details JP will have to fill you in .......but in short he kept the chassis and transformers ........ we replaced all 7 tubes ....a preamp of 3x 12ax7's , one apparantly quite rare but not unobtainable tube for the reverb and trem, and then 2 x EL84's for the power section and then a rectifier tube........ he then totally stripped out the elk circuit and rebuilt his version of a fender princeton into it ...as the controls are exactly as a princeton with reverb/intensity/speed (fro trem) then 2 band eq (high and low) and one volume .........
well the previous owner had already replaced the original elk speaker with an old fender 12 inch one the previous owner says came from an old 70's fender amp he had ......
so yes so now i have an awesome sounding very fenderish amp with same controls and circuit as a princeton BUT instead of 6V6 output valves this has EL84's so quite a hybrid........... anyway it sounds fab ...and has proven reliable on stage and in the studio (it's quiet enough to use in studio without upsetting the sound guy )
i still want to replace the speaker cos this old fender one can 'fart" when turned loud and i push a lot of bass...... but for my jazz at moment it's fine .....i seldom play at more than 6 ... but an upgrade is on the cards ?
and i love that this amp is fat and loud and stays clean till almost 7 ....but quite lightweight as tube amps go
anyway not that one can see too much from pics of amps but here it is
