  • Jonathan Butler .... tonite ..... Nov 2nd, 2011

Off to check out an old mate from CT who now lives in LA...... he will be doing 1 show in JHB tonite then about 10 in CT, then off to tour the US with the likes of Dave Koz and others......jazz guitarist and vocalist, Jonathan Butler, a South African who has made good especially in the US......

Jonathan has played with big names like Earl Klugh, George Benson and lots more.....

Here he does his take on the popular Bob Marley "No Woman, No Cry" ...... I think this is a great cover.....

I quite enjoyed Jonathan's concert last night at Carnival City. The sound was outstanding. The mix was brilliant. It was loud, but of an acceptable volume, considering the screaming fans, and people singing along to some of his hits and more well known toons....... part of his inter-action was getting fans off the floor to sing parts of their favourite songs, of which 2 guys just blew the audience away.....

Gear-wise, he started with an funky jazzy instrumental, using his ........... LEFT HANDED "SMOOTH-TALKER" (obviously)....... the tone of that guitar gave me goose-flesh........ (do I want one......YES!!! ...... but not now). He played about 40% of the show on it. The rest he played a Gibson (ES175??)...

The individual backing musos were brilliant.....a keyboard player and his musical director, from LA. The drummer and bassist held together a tight rhythm-section section, with the bass switching from a normal electric to up-right acoustic (is that right?) without a marked difference to the over-all sound mix

All in all a fantastic concert from a South African who made good!!!

    Below ....Jonathan's "meager.." arsenal.......

    Some action pics.......

      Must have been Awesome
Didn't even know he was a Smooth Talkee ?
