After the Vintage 30 was discarded from my options, what are the differences between the G12H and G12M? I know that the G12H has a higher efficiency, but what are the sound differences, particularly if put into a Vox AC4 (head and cab)? Which would be better?
Celestion G12H vs G12M Greenback
Hi edgy, the G12M has a more restrained high end response than the G12H which IMHO works better for lower wattage amps if you prefer Fender guitars as lower wattage amps tend to be a bit more toppy than higher powered amps. Should you prefer darker sounding humbucker pickups I would go for the G12H.
The Greenback is a great combo to the Vox Night Train, (much better than the V30 IMO) but I'm not sure how that compares tonally to the AC4. Quite a modern sounding speaker with a high mid bump... I'd say listen to speaker shootouts on youtube!
It is personal preference, no speaker is better. What does matter is how much gain or overdrive you use and what pickups. My personal preference would be the G12H(55)

I play a Tele Thinline '72 with wide-range humbuckers, and it's quite a bright guitar for one that has 'buckers. I also love single coils and will be adding a single coil Tele/Strat at some point. So yes, I do prefer Fender guitars.
I know not one speaker is better than the other, but here is what I am wanting to accomplish with my AC4:
1. A little more clean headroom
2. A little more volume
3. Smoother breakup with more bass when it is cranked
I use lots of delays and verbs, and like setting the amp just over break up point and using the guitar's volume to clean up the sound.
I know the G12H will make the amp seem louder as it has a 100db efficiency, but I have a G12M in my other amp, an AC15, and I love it. I listened to comparisons and I did prefer the G12M (the G12H was a bit too in your face for me), but I'm not sure that the G12M will help me accomplish the above two goals. I've also read that the G12H sounds awesome with the AC4. Yes, I know it's subjective. Thoughts?

More volume, more bass. The G12H is great for that, and remember, that 'in your face' sound is what makes you heard in a mix. Suppose you won't be playing out much with an AC4 but still. if you have a G12M in the other amp, then get a cab with a G12H, then you have one of each. you can always hook up your ac4 to the speaker in your AC15 at home.
Thanks, sounds like a plan.
The AC4 is actually perfect for when I play at church, it is mic'ed and the stage volume stays low. I can't use the AC15, have to keep the volume on about a quarter, and it's a big church. Loud stage volume just never works in a church.

Just watched two video comparisons, I'm going with the G12M. The G12H just doesn't appeal to me. It lacks the character of the G12M IMO. Thanks for the help guys ?
