yup, no question. when using tab or chord progressions off the 'net, i often find things that don't ring true. this is a good example, a major where a minor should be, i've also seen 'slash chords' incorrectly used to indicate the completely wrong chord or inversion, as well as simply completely wrong chords in completely wrong places. best thing is generally to try figure it out yourself by playing both (or however many there are) options and seeing which fits the original recording. especially when you're SO SURE ? you're right, and everyone else seems to be telling you something else.
main problem here is that B - A - E is a relatively rational - if not particularly usual - progression (V - IV - I in E), and could sound right to many an ear trying to transcribe the song, especially just the chords. the E to me doesn't sound like the I here, and creating tension is something i find jack johnson does most lekkerly. to me, the Bm - A - E is more likely to be a ii - I - V progression in A. always landing on the V creates a constant need to resolve somewhere, and going back to the ii (Bm) doesn't do it.
on second listening, there is a heck of a lot of complex stuff going on behind the scenes in this track. conversations between the bass and the guitar, that E isn't as innocent as first it appears... the track could be in D. holy cow. but there are far more learned people here who could tackle this far better than i could ever hope to.
