Hey guys, I seriously wanna get into the world of recording. ?

So I'm looking for a good way to start experimenting with guitar recording and maybe some vocals. I've already got a SM57 I've purchased a year or so back, and never really used it.

I'm specifically looking at the Line 6 UX2 PodStudio Interface. It seems to be a great way to start, I don't wanna spend a fortune, but want something decent at least - so it seems like a great way to start (correct me if I'm mislead).

I would like to use my SM57 to mike my amp, and use it's tone, is this interface a good solution for this? And are there anything better at the same price point I'm missing?

Tell me what you think..
Thanks!
I always recommend the m-audio devices with pro tools... Can pick'm up at around R1000.
The Pod Studio UX2 is a fantastic interface that offers you studio quality recordings when set up correctly. The catch is that it replaces your amp and pedals. You plug directly into it and use the included podfarm software to build your fx chain and select + customize amps, cabs and Mics. If you wish to run your own amp, I'd rather go for a setup such as Jacques recommended. If you want the versatility of access to many sought after amps, cabs and fx without the hassle of setting up one or multiple rigs + tuning the room you are using for recording etc, I highly recommend the UX2. I got better quality recordings using my UX2 than I did from doing live recordings through my previous rig which set me back a good R50k+... Not to mention the versatility of having so many amps etc to choose from. You'll still need to get Cubase or ProTools of course... Podfarm just replaces your amp(s) and fx.

Thank you, how are the effects (delay etc.) quality on the software?

Is it hard to dial in a good tone?
I speak under correction as well but I don't think that the UX2 has a pre amp to record with a mic?

It has two mic pres and two instrument inputs. A nice little all-in-one interface (if you don't have anything against modelling).

The quality of the effects in the POD Farm software is really good. Personally I've not been a big fan of digital guitar modelling at all, as it's always sounded 'artificial' to me. With POD Farm 2.5 though, it sounds awesome. I recently got the Studio GX, the UX2's smaller brother, but the interfaces have the exact same software packages, and between RiffWorks and Ableton Live Lite, you have everything you need to make some really good recordings. I'd recommend getting one.
