It is the responsibillity of the people going with the novice hunter to make sure he is ready when going on a hunt. There is nothing worse than wounding an animal, and most hunters will not take a shot on an animal that will not result in a quick and painless death. Hunting is not about death and destruction as most think, sure you see stories about canned hunting and people hunting pregnaent game. That is wrong and people like that shouldn't be associated with people who loves nature and respect it, the true hunters, not people killing for trophys regardless of the aftermath. Most farmers will let you shoot on targets before you are allowed in the field. Target shooting is a lot of fun, but hunting is alot different.

Sensitive topic. ?
One thing: not everyone who doesn't enjoy the idea of hunting is a "tree/bunny hugger", thanks. You don't like being labelled a "murderer" of animals, I don't like being labelled a bunny hugger (though I do have a pet bunny, which I hug sometimes). Like Hammeron, I simply don't have it in me to put a bullet through the head/heart of an animal.
On the flip-side, people who enjoy hunting are not "disturbed". It's a case of different strokes. I enjoy shooting and if I had the money I would, like Aubs, be a collector of firearms. Ironically I'm not a fan of using them for hunting (or killing people, go figure) despite them being designed very expressly for that purpose.
Interestingly, hunting continues to be a big source of income for game reserves around the country, which goes back into preservation of more species and greater numbers of animals. Tourists pay big money to come out on hunting expeditions, and many smaller game farms rely heavily on this income to keep running.

guess I am a bit of a hypocrite about this..
I say I don’t like hunting, but I would give my left nut to be able to hunt humans..
know there have been quite a few films over the years about that..
just think it would be totally awesome to let people lose on an island or within a confined area and then hunt them down...
there is nothing more exciting than hunting your own.

Didn't we have a post about not ganging up on people? The OP enjoys hunting and was looking for like minded people. If you don't have anything relevant to contribute leave the judgement and don't post. Before taking the high road just think of all the animal testing going/have gone into the development of cosmetics and medicine as an example. Poor guy, posts about his hobby and gets a shit storm.

I don't believe there's been any ganging up, though it's true that not everybody agrees.
If you want only replies that express agreement (I'm not saying that WantzChas does) then you should get a blog. If you post anything on a forum that allows replies from the whole world or certainly from any registered member then you should expect replies and that not all of them are going to be a slap on the back and a thumbs up.
In short - disagreement is not ganging up.
This is a potentially tricky topic. I thought Warren (so often a voice of reason) dealt with that well.

I try to go by the saying "if you don't have anything positive to contribute, rather keep quiet". I'll just be careful that I don't get trampled by all the high horses.

Oh and I aslo don't see how all those posts contributed to the thread.

Yeh, like I said I "try" to, but I got irked (sp?) In this one.

It's a lot more disturbing how people harvest animals/fish/birds commercially, and yet most people still eat meat.
Aye!

I am not vegetarian, and I will definitely not go watch my supper being slaughtered. I will gladly eat it though... I'll go gather some herbs with the village women... let my hair down, be one among the many.
Would I hunt? No... Do I dismiss it as barbaric? Well, if they are not going to use the meat, then yes... at least they could fly it over to an ethiopian village if they spent so much cash to kill the thing.
Killing for a horn or a tusk... thats rather cruddy. At least the TS pays for what he's killed and eats it... some biltong and stuff... some shoes get made. Perhaps someone could pass the idea along and organise some Kudu Nike's... or whatever. At least its being used and paid for... its his pet as far as I'm concerned. Whatever he does with it is his business.
I don't own a gun or anything... but I can truly appreciate the level of detail some put into it. Same with tattoos... I love looking at them, always wanted one... but that fear of needles gets me everytime. And I wish i had the skill to use a crossbow, or a bow of any kind...
So the TS hunts... who gives a crap... we play guitar. Guitar = wood = tree = purified air... yep, we helped destroy it. So stop pointing fingers. Holier than thou only gets you a throne for bogroll.

how can you even eat an egg that hasnt developed into a chicken yet??
poor things....
:/ leave your eggs in a warm place for years and see if they ever develop even a little bit...
eggs that we buy and eat are not fertilized, its like a girl that isnt pregnant, shes not just gonna go into labour and give birth suddenly...(Remember no religious discussion though, im talking about ur average everyday female in todays world)

Hey, what do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant? (Not an original thought, but thought-provoking none the less...)

Depends on your lawyer, but probably life.

On the one hand, you have animals who grow up not seeing much light, standing in their own poop, eating not much else other than corn, being killed for us to eat...
On the other, you have animals who live a good life, eat good natural food in their surroundings, who get plenty of exercise and generally live good lives before being killed for us to eat...
I'll take option 2.
Could I do the actual hunting myself? Doubt it but I get why other people enjoy it. It's like Rugby - not for me but if we win the cup, I'm a happy-chappy and will enjoy the "reward" of being part of the winning nation.

I choose not to hunt. I can, I have. I don't like it. If it's out of necessity, I will definitely do it. But I will never personally make a sport of it.
However, it one's choice whether to do it or not. I don't dig the hippies collectively telling someone that they can't hunt (As long as it's within reason - stay humane etc)

No voices defending all those plants that get butchered every day so that we can eat veggies ☹
