G'day all, been lurking for a short while and thought I'd better introduce myself:
Been playing since my mid teens, (in mid/late forties now) didn't want to learn the clarinet at school so the guitar seemed a better alternative.
MIA Telecaster, 1991 Strat, Takamine acoustic, Roland Bolt CUBE (don't know why a said Bolt, I must have been reading about them somewhere!) 60 a few effects pedals, mostly Boss. Right that's the gear out of the way.
I don't play nearly enough as I should. Had inspiration a few months ago, but a bunch of us cannot seem to all get together at the same time. Careers, kids etc etc.
I always take some of my kit to braais and parties........just in case.........And have had some great times.
I am really impressed with the level of tolerance on this forum, they're are few if any haters and questions are treated with respect, no matter how seemingly pointless, or repetitive they may be.
It's all most interesting!
My influences are not the standard rock set, as my age dictates - Hugh Cornwell, Robert Smith, John McGeogh, Paul Weller, Lou Reed, Bowie, it goes on, I'm sure you get the picture; but not the best for playing requests at parties!
Well, I'm pleased to be here it is most informative and instructive.
Cheers,
J

Welcome welcome! There are only two things we despise on this forum:
People who are intolerant of other musical preferences, and people who like shredding.

So we don't despise crocs, we just pity those that wear them?

Hi cfcjim and welcome to the forum. Looks like you might be adding some new flavours to the musical soup here.

Well, those who admit they wear them ?

Thanks for the warm welcomes! 8)
Crocs...hmmmmm...I don't think I should air my feelings in such an obviously non-prejudiced environment ?
As for shredding, well I would like to quote Gary Moore: "Speed alone is meaningless, it's like saying look how big my willy is!" From an early eighties interview in the long defunct Musician and Recording World magazine.
Again, thanks for making this a great place.

That's not true Pete. I'd go so far as to say it's a crock. ?
Enjoy cfcjim. I'd think Bowie and Lou Reed would set you up nicely for the braai circuit ?

When the cholestrol hits my vein and things don't look quite the same... booooerewors...

As for the Braai circuit; yes, I can imagine explaining the lyrics of Heroin or Make Up to a bunch of ......well you know!
Playing a sausage based version of Heroin would be fun - innuendo etc. Just like a Carry on film!

@ cfcjim
Hugh Cornwell - The Stranglers. Loved the Stranglers but have never heard his solo stuff.
I remember back in 1977 when I first heard Rattus Norvegicus, incredible stuff...walking on the beaches...
The first 4 albums were good stuff, punk with a decent musicians and a great keyboardist.
Was a huge Jam fan as well, enjoyed Style Council and Weller's solo stuff.
Robert Smith is a genius.
Welcome
cfcjim
I am so glad that my less than mainstream influences are appreciated.
I was and still am a massive Jam fan, when Sound Affects came out my brother and I saw them six times he's a bass player by the way and Foxton's thudding style was a huge influence along with the Strangler's JJ Burnel.
I concur Robert Smith is a Genius.
Weller to me is a hero due to his incredible songwriting skills and underrated guitar playing.
Hugh's solo stuff is pretty good, I saw him live in Toronto a few years ago and the gig was very good, amazing bass player, a fair replacement for JJ. Her name is Caroline Campbell.
There ares a few good clips on Youtube mainly Hugh rehashing Stranglers' stuff. One of my all time favourites is Walk on By, the long version. Fantastic by both the Stranglers and Hugh on his own.
Cheers,
J

Come now Squonk this is a family forum... ?
Welcome cfcjim. You know if you copy and paste your name after itself you might be an Icelandic volcano...
And guitar is 100 times more manly than clarinet.
