  • anybody know any top class "chicken pickin" country guitarists in pta /jhb ?

i have taken an interest in "chicken pickin" country music and wanna know if anyone on the forum knows anyone particularly in pta/jhb area who is profficient enough in this style ? i had heard that the north of gauteng is country music heavan ..........

as i would like to pick their brains( no pun intended) and get some guidance on this style over a coffee and jam ....... and even pay for formal lessons in this style if they at a pro level with it .......... i'm only interested in this chicken picken style and not straight ahead country players cos i can easily play the slower country

i know i could learn from dvd's too, and i have already seen a few around online........but as a tutor i see the value of learning from a player directly as being more beneficial than dvd's by far

for those that don't know chicken pickin it's like the video below......

Tis a shame Keira, my boss is a man named Robin Gallagher and he is quite literally probably the best chicken picker in South Africa...Alas we are in Cape Town ☹

Here are some of the hybrid pickers I've taken a shine to ?

I don't know if it'll be useful, but maybe somewhere in there you can pickup something you'd like ? I realise hybrid picking and chicken picking aren't necessarily the same thing, but to me it's okay cause realistically the technique kinda is but the phrasing is different.

    Edit: Moar!

way cool vids chad........ and yes a pity robin is in ct ....... but i do have one lead for someone in jhb so far ......
