Hey everyone,

I thought it'd be appropriate to introduce myself here. I've been lurking around for a while, and spend far too much time on international forums, so I figured I'd say hey here.

My name is Byron, live in JHB. I pretty much only do recording these days, but want to get back into playing live. I play guitar, bass and drums, can sing ok (I hope I can sing ok) and dabble in some synth work. (By no means a keyboardist!) I played in a band in high school, played a few gigs. Started doing home recording about 6 years ago and never stopped. I did vocals for a band called Outside Eden, played a few shows in JHB and recorded there EP.
(They have since broken up)

I listen to Jazz/Metal/Djent/Electronic stuff, mostly drum and bass (aphex twin, venetian snares, Amon tobin etc). I love Periphery ("Djent" for lack of a better term) and Meshuggah and all that good stuff. Also love Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery and all of that good stuff. ? My main guitar, my baby, is an 8 string multi-scale Agile Pendulum, with a lace alumitone pickup. I also have a LTD 407 Viper 7 string, with the stock emgs which is awesome. And a Epiphone les paul Goldtop with the usual Seymour duncan JB and Jazz combo. I'm currently looking for an amp, but do my Recording with Line 6 stuff. I have a Roland electronic drum kit which smash around on. ?

Great to be here, and I'm really impressed with this local and lekker community.

Thanks to everyone.

Kind regards,
Byron

P.S. I thought I'd add a picture of my guitar, since I haven't seen one locally, and everyone likes a bit of guitar pr0n. (Ok I have no idea how to insert an image, so I'll link to the manafacturer website. http://www.rondomusic.net/photos/electric/pendulumpro82527nat5.jpg)
    Welcome welcome!
Make yourself at home here! theres a few 7 and 8 string players around here! ?

as to posting pics of your babies, on the second row of icons in the quick reply, theres an image button! the second button from the left!
select your link, and click that button! voila!

We wanna see all your babies though ?
the "your gear" forum is great for just that!

Enjoy your stay, and dont mind the crazy crowd! ?
Thank you for the warm welcome! I'll post my babies in the gear forum for sure.
Thanks for the help and don't worry about the crazy crowd, I think all guitarists/musicians have lost their minds, I certainly have. ?

      Best,
      Byron
        Welcome Byron,
lots of good stuff on this site, you've come to the right place, ?
          welcome.
that is a lot of strings.
          ?
Hey. Hope it's as much fun for you in person as it was from a distance. Really good forum. Enjoy.
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
My apologies for posting in the wrong section, I looked for the introductions but I was obviously a moron. ?

And Wizard, it's funny because I've mainly spent time on Sevenstring.org, and there everyone thinks 6 is too few strings! ?
Nice to have a change of scenery though, and really glad to be here.
                Welcome...

You'll feel right at home here, that's how we operate... what's your name again?

                  That's cause they do angle ? It's a fanned fret 8 string ?

                  Very pretty ?

I'm quite jelly as I've recently become fixated with fanned frets and would love to try one ?

I'm also quite a frequenter to ss.org and I agree with their consensus regarding appropriate number of strings. As you may have guessed prior I'm one of the 8 string players on here ?

Welcome to the local forum man, hopefully we can have many amusing conversations about djent and ERGs in future. I look forward to it, as it's always nice to see another ERG player join up ?
Yay for ERG! My name is Byron, thank once again for the nice words. ?

I took to the fan like a duck to water, its really comfortable and just makes sense, its a 25,5 to 27 fan so its not too extreme.
I would've liked a 28.625 to 25.5, but I'm really enjoying it. I noticed your other thread about all them string and posted there too. ?

If you're looking to get into the multi scales I'd definitely suggest checking out rondomusic, great gear and a great price.
Obviously the shipping adds a bit but really good guitars. If you're ever in JHB give me a shout, I'd be happy to have a jam, and you can try the fanned frets. ?

great to be on here guys, thanks again. ?

                    Byron
My goodness thats one wicked guitar! It is even possible to play where the frets start to angle? It looks way too small for a mere finger!

But welcome. Im excited to see you and your gear in action (hopefully) 8)
It's actually the most comfortable guitar I own! If you slide your hand lightly from the nut to your highest fret, you'll notice the natural angle of your wrist.
It seems to me that this natural angling follows the fanned frets perfectly. ? I guarantee that if you picked this up, you'd have little to no trouble playing it.
I occasionally have some issues at the higher frets, where the fan gets a bit more extreme, since up there the dots on the neck don't line up with the higher
strings. ? So I need to keep my wits about me. ?

I'll be posting all my gear up in the gear section this week when I have some time. ? Probably Wednesday after voting! ?

The treble side is 25,5" which means the fret spacing of the high strings is the same as say a 24 fret Ibanez RG. It may appear vissually small but it's most likely more or less the same size as your guitars frets ? Now the lower side is a whole different story ?
5mjacbyr wrote: If you're looking to get into the multi scales I'd definitely suggest checking out rondomusic, great gear and a great price.

I actually convinced my neighbour to buy an Agile Intrepid 727 off of Rondo Music, I'm very familiar with the brand and honestly I think it's some of the most insane value for money you can get these days ? If I'm ever in JHB again I'll definitly hit you up man, we'll do some djent djam vibes ?
Welcome to another fellow ERG player! A rare yet enthusiastic breed ?
The Agile with fanned frets - definitely the next 8 string i want to get ?

So you got it through rondomusic? Glad they're rustworthy!

I'm in joburg on thursday if you're around, wouldn't mind checking it out.
Awesome guitar man!! Very welcome here, great to have more sci-fi guitar guys on here.

I'm a seven stringer exclusively myself, have (counts on fingers) four of the things lying around.
Very nice! Why are all the erg players in Cape Town!

@LooneyAtTheGate: Actually Thursday is the absolute worst for me, I have a dissertation to finish and with the public holiday this week is not looking happy. What guitars do you play?

Cause all the technical music comes from Cape Town ?

Ok thurs i'm just there for the day.. maybe another time ?

I have similar guitars to you funnily - an 8 string Ibanez RGA8, LTD Viper (its a 6 but i'd get the 7 if it sounds as good as mine ?), an Epi Les Paul Gold Top and a few more. Also might get that one Cort EVL 7 string. I play my 8 the mostly but sometimes its nice to be able to just hit that 7th string freely for certain riffs.
