What happens when you need to fill some iconic shoes:
The Rolling Stones went through a pretty rough patch in the mi-Eighties, but things reached a boiling point when Mick Jagger refused to tour in support of the band's 1986 LP Dirty Work. Instead, he put out a second solo album and launched a brief solo tour to support it in 1988. The setlist was full of Rolling Stones classics, and he hired guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani to play the Keith Richards parts. This was a low blow to Richards and the band nearly broke up as a result, but the following year they put aside their differences and launched the Steel Wheels stadium tour.

Whaaaaaaaaat? I kinda like Satch but... whaaaaaaaaaaat?
Keef is one-upmanship proof. Satriani I'm sure played his parts perfectly, but greater skill does not equal better than Keef.

I admit though, I'm intrigued to see what this looked like. Did he shred over Keef lines, or play straight blues rock?
It's possible he also did a few gigs with Deep Purple, which is most probably closer to his style.

Just cant imagine Satch playing Tumbling Dice, Brown Sugar, etc, I suppose Smoke on the Water would also seem strange ?

Here they are doing... Red House ???

I feel like the universe is folding in on itself.

        (It's not bad btw)

Remember, this was before Satch was that well known...This is pre-Surfing with the Alien, as far as I know. He had played poppyish rock with "The Squares" as well...

Satch is one of my fave guitarists, but Keith Richards is just one of those guitarists that exude more "coolness" than anyone else, which can't be replaced ?
I can't possibly imagine why this little outfit was a failure :?

Still Satriani is great on Hendrix songs. I heard him do Waterfall on an MTV unplugged once. He has a nice voice too - which surprised me.
Kirk is a stand in guitarist as far as i am concerned ?
