I'm looking for a dedicated multi track playback unit to use for live backing tracks. The standard portable multi-track recorders used to come with aux outs so you could output your tracks in the studio, but they don't have that function any more. I'll need at least 4 channels. Anyone have a suggestion?
Multi track playback to play backing tracks
I think if you look, some will output multitrack digital audio via USB for studio use.
Otherwise, I know the Roland V-studio 100 has six audio outs (4 X 1/4", 2 X RCA).

This unit is almost perfect for my needs, but t the price I could use my spare sound card and set up a decent laptop. Did not think they'd be that expensive. With the later option I figure I could control effects via midi as well. Guitar used to be such a manly instrument, why do I feel like such a nerd!!
Laptops are portable, but not really gig-ready. Aside from the (never to be damned enough) wall-wart power supplies of a lot of their gear, the Roland gear usually takes a lot of punishment with no problems.

Agreed, my GP8 got abused for 17 years, laid her to rest last month. Just got a ME 50 from Guitar Geek. The words Boss/Roland and tank are usually associated. Unfortunately the band are leaning toward a laptop now.

I heard my name on the wind, echoing through the valleys...
Ahem, back to reality.
What about the Yamaha AW16G Audio Workstation posted at http://www.guitarforum.co.za/classifieds/here-goes!!!/
Don't think it has USB but it might be suitable for your purposes...

Get the Boss BR-800, the VS-100 is nice but you can only output one track at a time when you use it as a stand alone backing track device. In my band we have about 6 different layers of synth and the click track to worry about so the BR-800 is the best call for us, you can mix each track individually etc. The VS was very limited in these respects for live use, you could only arm one track at a time or something useless like that...Also the BR-800 is about 2k cheaper than the VS and can also run on batteries...
This may be a blond question, (as I may well be), but i only see 2 RCA outputs on that thing, where are the other outputs? I need a minimum of 4 channels to send to FOH.Chad Adam Browne wrote: Get the Boss BR-800, the VS-100 is nice but you can only output one track at a time when you use it as a stand alone backing track device. It's only got the RCA outputs, you can mix all the various channels independently on the unit itself. It is pretty limited in that respect, but it was just a suggestion ?Averatu wrote:This may be a blond question, (as I may well be), but i only see 2 RCA outputs on that thing, where are the other outputs?
