  • please rate my *custom* strat pick guard

Hey guys, I hope I'm in the right thread here.

Please let me know what you think of this? I just woke up late the other night and stayed up till it was done,(originally, this is a SSS strat, so I had to test an HSS!)

I'm sorry Alan,I was struggling to get the image to load correctly,I have now used photobucket(as ur tutorial suggests) and it displays in my browser...?
Very cool, I wanted to do the same with my Samick Malibu (Greg Bennett design) but do not have the guts to do it yet, want to put new knobs and pup selector thingy and do something cool wit the pick guard to jazz it up a bit...change is as good as a vacation they say ?
Well ja,I havnt touched the original pick guard, this one I made using the original as a template...

where / what / how did you get the material for the cover ??

i am looking for a white piece of'plastic" that can be used for the back cover over the tremelo springs?

its cool on the pickgaurd alone... But im not sure it fits with the sunburst onthe strat?!
Maybe if it was a solid colour?! But thats just my opinion! If you like it, its all that counts hey ?

you know what might have looked cooler? Obviously just my opinion...
Is instead of going through the middle of the pickgaurd, you go along the edge of the guard, but only where the black burst is on the guitar...
So only the top and right side will have the black on it...
Or the opposite, the left and bottom sides, that might look cool as well! ?

But straight through, not my own cup of tea!
@StephenG, in no way am I right in what I did, but kill me if u want, I actually used a piece of hard board, u kno, from the tomato type boxes, its just a prototype so that I can see if I like the look,I sprayed it with rattle cans too...I might look into getting some perspex(white of course) and trying to make a pick guard with that, but like I said, this was a spur of the moment idea
@Norman,I get what ur saying,I also wondered if the stripe would clash with the sunburst, but I didn't want to go all white or black coz my main motive was to hide the fact that the humbucker is black...and also to maybe get a "tuxedo" look...lol,ur idea of bursting the pick guard is great...hmmm,now I might just consider respraying...again...

                Thanks for ur input guys
cool, glad you like the idea ?
but try it on either top and right sides or left and bottom sides, not all round!
I think it would look cooler that way!

Especially the bottom and left side burst! That would look hot imo ?
What about having stickers made with the pattern/design you are looking for. When you are tired of the pattern you can pull the sticker off and go back to the original or get another sticker.

We get custom stickers made for our off-road bikes, usually costs just under R2k. For a pick guard you could use a lighter vinyl and it would be about quarter of the materials so should be a couple hundred Rands.

The designs are usually done in Corel Draw or copy and paste from a jpg so the deigns are endless.

Message me if you want contact details for any of the bike custom sticker guys.

I like it... but then, I also own a duct taped, carved out Tele.

                          Pic? ?
I don't think the colour scheme works with a sunburst finish. Although, having 2 white pups and white controls, it might have been better to have the white stripe down the middle? ???

I also might be wrong, but I think having a pickup mounting ring (rectangle) would push the humbucker a lot higher than it should be in a strat. Which would mean your action needs to be higher. How is the action on your strat now?

Yup,you are absolutely right, the pickup mounting ring was the last thing I thought about when I got this idea,so I cut the pick guard to accomodate the ring, then when I put it together I saw that its actually quite high,so,bcoz this pup is the bridge pup,its ring is higher than the necks one,so I took the neck ring and used that to lower the pup...hope that makes sense...
So bcoz I did this, no adjustment to action was needed,my action is quite low,I prefer it that way
Ja,I considered the stripe through the middle thing, but really, that's a bit overdone imo
So you used a thinner mounting ring then...

I think Mighty Mite make one that is flat? I used on on an Ibanez once.
