Ok, so I am selling the computer for approx R8500.
I an enjoying the strat immensely. Now what I want to know, what you would recommend up to about R6000.
I'm always looking for second hand deals, but can't seem to find any. I just need a clue on what to look for when I go to a music store...

Do a search on the forum, this question has been tackled many times..
Basically, you should play as many as you can, forget the name on the headstock. However, some direction would be Takamine, Tanglewood and breedlove.

Can you give us a better idea of what you're looking for? Steel string? Nylon string? For live use (eg amplified) or not?

I don't have a decent internet connection(thus i'm not very active on the forum), and for some reason it times out most of the times when trying to use the search function, will keep trying though...
I will probably use it for some live playing in church etc, I'd prefer steel strings... I have a old yamaha classic with nylon...
It sucks living far from music stores that have decent stock of guitars to try...

In Potch there is a music store...
i havent been there myself, but i suppose you HAVE tried looking there at the range available yes?!
My SO studies in Potch, and i go there every couple of weeks to visit when she doesnt come home for the weekend, so i will still check the shop out when im there again!
I think its in James Moroko Avenue! It runs parallel to Mooirivier!

Jip, there are three stores in Potch that I know of... ? They are all in the same street...
The only gripe I have is, when I got into guitar playing, I went to all of them.
Two of them had nothing more expensive than +- 3grand, and that was ibanez starter kits.
The one who had higher ranged stuff, nobody to assist, and the girl assistant refused that I try out anything in store...
Was planning on checking them out tomorrow... Maybe things changed....
Norman86
If they dont want you to try, they dont want the sale ?
speak to someone else thats there!!
Someone should let you try the guitars!! ?

Greetings guys, so I got an offer for an SWOP, an Ibanez AEL20ETCS. Apparantely it has about 40 hours of play on it, and it includes a stagg hard case and a bright cable.
How much do you think this guitar is worth, and how much of an trade in would be reasonable if we say the pc is worth about R8000?
What is your general opinion of this guitar? How does it compare to corts that are in the same price range thanks guys!

List Price R 4,499.00
Your price R 3,599.00
First link on google...
For R8000, you can get a really good acoustic...
Tanglewood is a favourite around here, some really good models!
There is also a very nice yamaha in the classifieds if i remember correctly!
Brown sunburst one i think!
Better than that ibanez!! In my opinion of course!
StefStoep
Not a good deal!!!
The guitar is worth R3500 new.
IMO take one day and go to Jhb with you R8K cash to one of the big stores and go try everything you can. You'll get a good deal since you are paying cash.
Even with the petrol money it will still work out better since small shops can't give you the discount that the bigger stores can.

Thats the thing! If I can just get the damn thing sold! But people don't keep their word these days....
I've been looking the Yamaha looks good... Would enjoy it much more than a high end PC...

I would go second hand, especially if you can get R8000 for your PC, should pick up a huge bargain for that price.
Also make sure you get a hardcase with your guitar.
If you need help in JHB, just give a shout

Thanks that would be a great help. Think I'd rather be patient and wait for a good price for the pc. Just the case costs about R15000 new, so about half would be nice....

Yeah I went to the Potch stores not too long ago (about a month or 2 ago...) and I was definitely not impressed...mainly focusing on low end guitars, I didnt really look at the acoustics or anything really since i was looking to see if there was anything nice, so instead of looking at what they had, i looked for what they didnt have and found nothing....
Joels acoustic for R2000 on the forum is probably a good bet, don't be put off by the fact that its R2000 not R6000 cause im sure it'll be everything you're looking for and you'll have R4000 in your pocket as a bonus ?

So... I played on a Takamine G series EG543SC and its awesome, love it a lot more than the Ibanez ael20 I tried out.
I can get it for R6800, is this a good price? And is it worth it? Love the look of the guitar so much...

Be sure about the sound too. Looks only go so far if you're not happy with the sound and feel of the instrument.
Takamines are generally good value and usually have a pretty good plugged in sound.
Sounds like you have a little bit of time and you have cash. That puts you in a strong position. I'd ask your local store what the best price they can give you is. Then call some stores in Jo'burg and ask them for their price and if they have stock. Then you can figure out whether or not it's worth your while to drive up to the big city.
