Speakers through a guitar amp

Was just wondering about this, and after a bit of Googling, got confused with impedance and ohms and wattage... So, I have two big speakers with speaker wire and a mini guitar amplifier - is there any way to hook them up, and would it be worth doing it or not?

The two speakers are Akai, Model SW-T110

Here's all it says on the back:
3-way speaker system
Woofer - 25cm
Mid-range - 120mm
Tweeter - 50mm
System impedance - 8 ohms
Max power input - 60W
Sensitivity - 90dB/w.m

Then the amp is a funny little thing - a Washburn Amp3. Its one micro amplifier/speaker with a similar extension speaker. The only details I can get for that are Output Power: Max 5W RMS @DV9V

EDIT: I forgot - the speakers have the typical red and black 'ports' for speaker wire

Sorry Bud. I just don't see a 5W amp driving two 60W seakers... :?

Well you'll get volume... but not much!
Wether its worth it or not, well, do it and tell us!
If its just to add some volume, it should be fine! just dont expect it to be loud!

Yeah he won't get much volume. Those speakers have a very low sensitivity. Also, unless the little amp will do all the speaker modelling and all that jazz it'll most likely sound pretty mediocre too. Those are hifi speakers and will most likely sound shrill/trebly.

Connect one speaker up and see how it sounds.
+1 ezietsman. The tweeter will probably annoy you and you can forget about speaker breakup, but you may be happy with it for practice purposes.

Thanks all for the input - wasn't sure if it was possible, but will try it out. Sorry for the lower grade question though, but how do I make the speaker wire 'compatible' with the amp? Simply rewire the black and red speaker wire onto what exactly?

ahh.. if your amp has a quarter inch jack for speaker out.. then wire to a 1/4 inch jack. if not.. you would need to trace the wires to the speaker in from the head and wire 2 compatible sockets to those wires. then just plug the speaker in as per the normal ins..

Thanks. I think it does! ? Will give it a go over the weekend and let you all know whether it was worth the effort. Cheers for the advice - Im clueless when it comes to things like this (as you would have by now noticed).

Im inclined to agree with the others, not sure 5W is enough juice to push thatspeaker nicely..

You can always use lower powered amps with speakers with a higher power rating. Not the other way around. For hifi,90dB is actually not too bad and it will only be four times less loud than a 96dB guitar speaker.
The one thing you coul try to make it sound less shrill, is to cut out the whole tweeter - will be much closer to guitar speaker sound.
