  • 8 string flamenco guitar piece. Emotive, awesome, beautiful.

I love this guy's technique. 8 string flamencos are not common. This is incredible beautiful to me. I never even knew of this guy.

I feel this piece can only be appreciated in it's entirety so try to watch the whole thing.

yes awesome piece.... and interesting to see 8 string flamenco .the music is so beautiful..

but phew he needs to lighten up a bit he's so serious,

paco is passionate and serious about his flamenco but smiles and laughs while he plays .....vincento too , pasionate yes but not as serious looking as this dude....

yes i know it's about the music but his mannerism and that overly serious grimace on his face while he plays actually gives me bad vibes. but what he's playing is superb

i think maybe someone i should listen to on mp3 rather than watch on video ... ]

but great find conrad and i too have never heard of him before

ps @ conrad so you bought that ramirez yet ???

LOL I think I didn't notice coz I was basically doing other things while just listening to the music. He does look depressed yes hehehe

No, no Ramirez yet. I know which one I really want now but it comes in 2 scale lengths and all those currently in SA have the long one which is unnecessarily hard to play. Once they find me the 650mm, I'll buy it.

I am also waiting for a 22nd had guitar to come back from a luthier that is touching it up. Bottom range student model but my teacher likes to use it next t his custom made van den Berg so he assured me I would want this one.

I have serious GAS!!! I dunno if patience is a virtue when it causes you heartache LOL (Tone is in jest).
nothing wrong with serious GAS, as you know i'm a deal seeker and i hate to spend too much money on an instrument and carol always tells me "if you a serious musician you deserve a good guitar so spending money on it should not be an issue" ...... ....... now you see why i love her so ....... ?

good luck with the ramirez quest ........ tone is everything ..... and re that longer scale length obviously about 660 mm thats actually the traditional ramirez scale length and the longer strings do make an awesome difference in a full bass deep tone ( my pawn shop yamaha you heard me play .. is 660 mm (cos it's a rameriz copy) and i love the longer scale ...so maybe play a few hours on the 660 mm ones before you make up your mind .and in my books i don't think it's harder to play in any way

She is a good woman!!!!! And you are a serious musician and you deserve serious instruments.
I am glad and blessed to have the same understanding from Tish.

Yes I vividly remember your Yamaha. I loved the tone on that thing. I hope the 2nd hand Contreras is as good as they say. The guy wants a bit much for it though...more than what it costs new.

well remember prices are always flexible..... and in the nylon guitar world there's not a huge market so ... it gives you more leverage....... and if he's asking too much ....... make sure you A/B the guitar with a really good one before buying it ....... cos i often hear a guitar in isolation and think wow great sound.then play another good one a few minutes later only to hear all the flaws in the guitar i thought sounded great only minutes ago ..so definitely insist on a point of reference in an A/B maybe even takeit in to the store and compare it to the ramirez you like......

but yeah if it has the tone you want ...then i guess being over priced is nothing...... cos in nylon world if that guitar does not sound awesome as it stands .there's nothng one can do to improve the tone ...... and yes i would choose tone over playability

Yes this is what I experience too. I often think the thing is awesome until it is next to another. Thanks for the advice Keira.

My left had seems to get tired on the 664 scale length when playing certain classical pieces. I might be able to adapt but I have been warned by some people. Although, I think James Grace uses a 664mm Ramirez for his alternate tuning pieces currently and they are particularly tough if the last concert I was at is anything to go by.
                a year later
James' guitar for alternate tunings when he tours is either a Ramirez copy with a Buffet sticker on the inside, or my guitar, a Hans Van Den Berg Concert Series.

I know this thread is ancient but just an update that I now own both the Ramirez and the Contreras. I bought them a couple of months apart...I guess the GAS was too much but I use both for different sounds.

GAS is a force to be reckoned with yes!
