  • Have you played your amp 10 before ? (or 12 if you own a peavey)

a friend borrowed me his jcm800 50w for the week.

at band practice last night i asked everyone to put back their earplugs, as i wanted to try out something that i always wanted to try, play a valve amp on full for a few seconds.

the master volume was just below 10, and the input gain about 3.

i must state even if i played on full just for a few seconds, it was worth every second.
it just felt so good.

i think everyone should experience this feeling at least once in their lives, just put in some earplugs.

p.s: the normal setting i use for the amp is master volume on 2 and gain a little bit higher, to give you an idea.

the riff i played was highway to hell.
I completely, totally, UTTERLY get that desire to have a wall of marshalls behind you, cranked up full blast till the lights dim, and then shredding!

Add in a crowd of thousands, a spotlight making your strings gleam. I totally get it!

One day when I'm rich and famous.
I've had my 50watt bassman on 10 a couple times recently.

Because there's something wrong with it, and it's not that loud maxxed out :-\
One played my twin @ 10 on master volume and preamp vol. Without ear plugs. Not gonna ever do something like that again.

you should have it checked out.

          oneday will be to late.
i'm exactly the opposite of rich and famous, and it gave me lots of joy.

I have a 50w Vox amp and I've never played it with the attenuator on more than half. ☹
Sorry couldn't hear you...what was the question again ?
Last time i try that without earplugs.
Where did you get your Attenuator from Warren? How much?

When I have money it's my top priority. I'm holding off because when it goes in, it goes in to get everything done - blackfacing included. Possibly even reupholstering ?. Hey Manfred, ezietsman was telling me it's not necessarily that hard to have a regulator of some kind (or something) fitted, so that you can alter the power and overdrive the tubes at different levels - like the Egnator Rebel20 I've been admiring and considering as an alternative.

                  What's your take on that?
Don't mean to butt in, but VVR is the best attenuation method out there. A little complicated but really cool. The only changes you will notice is the transformer saturation etc and speaker drive level. Otherwise, totally transparent!

You think it can be fitted to me old bassman (it's hand wired, I believe)?
                        I play my HT5 on 10 frequently ?

Yeah, VVR should be installed on every valve amp, but its not cuz then why would we buy big AND small valve amps?
