Here are the entries on the Baroque and Roll challenge . There are three groups , Advanced Intermediate and Beginner. You have 3 votes , one for each group. Voting closes on the 28th of Februaury.
My first ever submission - hooray! I've uploaded my file to http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/j1g8aa89/V8_rageaudio.mp3.html (2m29s - +/- 3mb). The electro backing track was done by my friend "Gravity South" (aka Wayne) and I was asked to put a 'rock feel' over it. The last +/- 60secs feature the harmony guitars (if you don't feel like sitting through the track). I'd like to enter as a intermediate player - but a complete noobie recording engineer - heh, the guitars sound a bit ugly compared to nicely produced electro track ::)

Here's my attempt at Baroque 'n Roll. Category A http://www.box.net/shared/xylgvxbmg7

http://www.box.net/shared/y0mv26umc7 I went acoustic for this one. A friend's Crafter Gae-27 tuned a semi-tone down, recorded through my G-dec. All crits and comments wellcome... :-[

This is my clip, I'm a beginner so I hope it's an acceptable entry, not sure if I followed the brief correctly but I tried :D (feel free to exclude it if it's not correct.) http://www.box.net/shared/l6rkv9qpeq

Here is my entry, although I must appologise. It isn't very Bach Rocky :-\ http://www.box.net/shared/0ryb3ujd1p
(old forum) Poll Results: Baroque and Roll V8 (I): 2 PeteM (A): 15 Chris77 (I): 1 G-Man (B): 10 FruitarGeek (I): 8

Well, seems like I was talking to myself there Tonedef, since my nickname at my last place of work was Obi Wan. ?

Okay, now for the challenge.
I've noticed a drop off in entries of late and I've been wondering why.... maybe because they're becoming too difficult? So, I'm going to make it easy for everyone. Play anything you want... but please lets see plenty of entries this time across all levels. Have a jol guys.

G-Man

Well done to everyone, great stuff hearing you guys! I will definitely be entering future challenges it was lots of fun. Thanks for listening! ?

EDIT: Awesome challenge Pete! And congrats!! ?

Norman86

Easy??? Thats not easy with the variety SO large! That makes it just as difficult!
How do you compare apples with apples?

Ah, im rambling on...
Its cool!

I will try enter, if i get time! and can sort my stuff out!
Provided i know exactly whats required?!

Length is max 1 minute?

What else is required Pete?

Sorry to bombard you!! :-[

PS... I would like to add what i thought... just havent had time to really put my thoughts down...
Cheers!

raithza

that's actually great, I've been toying with guitar rig etc lately and have a skeleton for a little 1-min rock track, nice to have a purpose for it and a reason to actually get it done nicely!

Nothing... just record what you want... a good composition, expression and technique will always win through.

All rules, as published, apply.

Well, this will show who is beginner, intermediate and advanced....
Though there is no question who some of the advanced players are!!

Hmmm, this is interesting Pete.. How does one then categorise their playing? In terms of skill, recording ability? Usually it's how well you managed to achieve the task at hand, now.. Hmm..

I keen to get back into these challenges, this one is going to be interesting... May try my 3 condenser acoustic mic setup and see what I can do ?

Tonedef

Fantastic! I gots meself a new toy today ?, time to give her a proper whirl!

I believe a good melody or riff, well executed in any genre of music will stand out. Yes, the quality of the technical recording might have an influence but it should not be the deciding factor when voting... afterall this a guitar site and not a audio recording site.

evolucian

wheee... i shall enter again... but i forgot now... do we have 7 days or ten days?

I think you have 20-25 days? haha.. Good to have you back Evo, now that you're in the comps again, I'll definitely go down to beginner level ?

Walked into TOMs purely to have a squiz, you know how it goes... Walked out with a blue cort m600. Oh man its so purdy and it has such great feel and tone and is an absolute joy to play! I <3 this guitar!

I also had a go on a variety of other axes, some very expensive, but none of them spoke to me. PHILISTINE ALERT! Had a whirl on a US standard tele. Apart from the obvious quality, I couldnt see what all the fuss is about considering the price. Maybe one day I shall grok it.

G-Man

Nice dude, very nice looking guitar! No turning back now! Once the bug bites... ?

(I've played a MIM strat at the store and other that it being really heavy (weight not tone ) I couldn't see what the store owner was raving about, maybe I'll understand one day... ? )
