My first ever submission - hooray! I've uploaded my file to http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/j1g8aa89/V8_rageaudio.mp3.html (2m29s - +/- 3mb). The electro backing track was done by my friend "Gravity South" (aka Wayne) and I was asked to put a 'rock feel' over it. The last +/- 60secs feature the harmony guitars (if you don't feel like sitting through the track). I'd like to enter as a intermediate player - but a complete noobie recording engineer - heh, the guitars sound a bit ugly compared to nicely produced electro track ::)

Here's my attempt at Baroque 'n Roll. Category A http://www.box.net/shared/xylgvxbmg7

http://www.box.net/shared/y0mv26umc7 I went acoustic for this one. A friend's Crafter Gae-27 tuned a semi-tone down, recorded through my G-dec. All crits and comments wellcome... :-[

This is my clip, I'm a beginner so I hope it's an acceptable entry, not sure if I followed the brief correctly but I tried :D (feel free to exclude it if it's not correct.) http://www.box.net/shared/l6rkv9qpeq

Here is my entry, although I must appologise. It isn't very Bach Rocky :-\ http://www.box.net/shared/0ryb3ujd1p
(old forum) Poll Results: Baroque and Roll V8 (I): 2 PeteM (A): 15 Chris77 (I): 1 G-Man (B): 10 FruitarGeek (I): 8

Walked into TOMs purely to have a squiz, you know how it goes... Walked out with a blue cort m600. Oh man its so purdy and it has such great feel and tone and is an absolute joy to play! I <3 this guitar!

I also had a go on a variety of other axes, some very expensive, but none of them spoke to me. PHILISTINE ALERT! Had a whirl on a US standard tele. Apart from the obvious quality, I couldnt see what all the fuss is about considering the price. Maybe one day I shall grok it.

Interesting that you went for a hardtail bridge!
But, its a shedload easier to maintain than a Floyd Rose bridge!
congrats on the new guit! Now please post pics of your two guitars!!!!

I figured I've got the strat if I wanna vibrato that sucker. The strat is coming along very nicely in feel - although the tone really sucks balls compared to the Cort (Rob's HSS set should sort that very nicely though - Thanks again bro! :goodtimes?. The cort has dual hummers, man that thing is deathly silent until you strum the strings, then it's like Cerberus raging at the moon. Lots of power in those pups, and it also made the effects in the GT come alive.

I tried out a couple of Tokai "Les Pauls" (too many pesos, but beautiful axes) and in particularly an SG. The SG had a dark tone that simply didn't deliver what I wanted, it's obviously a heavy rocker's guitar. I tried the Cort purely based on the fact that it's a gorgeous instrument, and WOW, I was blown away by the sweet sound it makes. That, combined with the assumption that the X-Custom would probably be somewhat similar in tone (I guess?) to the SG, together with an AWESOME discount on the M600, it was a no-brainer, really. It was really fun playing my little piece on the big-ass Fender amp they had ?

Anthony was kind enough to do a truss rod and action setup for me, and they kindly threw a leather strap into the deal for me as well. NICE! I got excellent service from TOMs, +1!

Playing that thing is like polishing a jewel, I love it to bits!

That's not the guitar ?
Blame the amp... and the settings you had on it ?
Strat is ultimate.. the King... even a squire Strat is king above all else...

I'm referring to my own cheapy clone, the hard graft of making it playable has reaped plenty dividends ?

I tried a squier... meh ?

Thank goodness you finally got a good guitar ?

Congrats Tonedef!! :goodtimes:

ABOUT THE FEBRUARY CHALLENGE:

Pete:
Wow, definitely advanced! Thats for sure! The best piece of all the entries!
But i say that because it was also the closest reflection of baroque style music! Very well done! i really enjoyed it! ?

Fruitargeek:
Pity it wasn't baroque styled, but it was a good track none the less!
I enjoyed it!

Chris77:
Its a very dark track?! More eastern influence than baroque i think!
Not my cup of tea, but not bad for what it is!

V8:
Yes, it wasnt baroque, but you can play well! i enjoyed that track too! Nice!

G-Man:
A good attempt for baroque for a beginner i think!
Better than what i could have come up with, had i tried to enter!
Well done for trying! also a bit dark though?!

Okay, now for the challenge.
I've noticed a drop off in entries of late and I've been wondering why.... maybe because they're becoming too difficult? So, I'm going to make it easy for everyone. Play anything you want... but please lets see plenty of entries this time across all levels. Have a jol guys.

Tonedef

Ya, except the force aint strong in me, it only works on individuals and not groups of people, otherwise I'd win every challenge.
