I saw an add for a local band needing a guitarist and I applied and have an audition tomorrow... A bit nervous/excited as I've never done that before. Any advice/tips? what should I expect?
I've been sent 2 song demos so I intend to try and learn at least 1 by ear... mostly simple riff-based rock so I think I can manage that.. and then I have one or two of my own pieces that will fit in with the band's sound.. but what else should I expect from an audition? The only thing I dread is if I'm expected to improvise a solo over a piece - I'm not good at that. I did say in my original application that I'm auditioning as rhythm guitarist though.

Good luck dude,
prepare well and just make sure your guitar's in tune,,, ?

What Costa said. And, be nice! It's much easier to have nice people in your band, whether you're Fidel Castro or not.

wear clean underwear. In case you in an accident on the way to the audition, then you dont want to embarass your mother.
Good luck - hope u nail it .

I think yo uare taking the word Audition far further than it should be, if you were auditioning for Guns and Roses, then yeh you should stress....But I doubt they have much of a name for themsleves.... So chill
Otherwise you are going to jam, wth them, and see if your musical style suits up with theres..... You should be as picky as they are, and if you keep that attitude then you should do fine

Show alot of confidence, I auditioned for a band full of experienced muso's once and I was confident in what I can do and it made it alot easier. I got into that band, then we started auditioning vocalists and what put us off was most of them made mistakes and made excuses for poor performance (which we might not have even noticed if they didnt bring it up) such as they just had a cold etc. So, stay away from cheesey excuses.
That was my experience which paid off.

And I also agree with what Mika says, remember you are also auditioning them...
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Well when i went to my first and only band audition, looking back, i played like crap.
They gave me 2 songs to go and work on, came back the next week and i fitted right in.
I wouldn't think they would expect you to know their stuff back to front, but like warren said just be nice and polite.
Also i wouldn't walk in there, saying "Hey i got stuff that would fit right in!!!", i would leave that aside until asked or you feel comfortable enough with the peeps in the band to letting them have a listen.
Don't be late!! its frustrating!!!
Don't be a know it all !!!
Sometimes just sitting there and listening to stuff other than what they've sent you, would be a plus. Shows you actually want to listen to what they're all about, instead of trying to play at the same time and you don't know the chord changes, when it mellows out and all that.
Just some things i've observed from people coming in and auditioning in our band.... ?
Also you should have the posture of "Hey i'm auditioning you, to see if i even want to be a part of this"
GL, let us know how it went!!!
