  • Classic Series '72 Telecaster® Thinline vs. Classic Series '72 Telecaster® Delux

Hey guys..

I'm now deciding between these two fender models..

Classic Series '72 Telecaster® Deluxe (R10 495,00)

Classic Series '72 Telecaster® Thinline (Not sure of price? about 1k more expensive I think..)

I play mostly Rock to Hard Rock.
The major differences seem to be the f-hole, headstocks and "knob configuration". The rest incl. pickups seems to be identical.
Also, any idea what the price of the thinline is in SA?

Any advice? Anyone owning any of these to give some feedback?

Thanks ?
I'm a huge thinline fan! But I play the '69-single coils. U may get a bit more sustain from the solid body tho. But they will be fairly similar in tone. Go with the one u prefer aesthetically!
My experience with thinlines, plugged in, is added feedback, and that's about the difference, imo...

I'd go for the deluxe...o and I also prefer the control configuration on the deluxe ?

But its up to you man...
Chambered body + F-holes + high gain = feeeeeeeeeeeedback. Some like to try to master it, most don't.
Havnt ever had an issue with feedback-its a very small chambered section and the guts are still set in a solid middle section. ES 355 have been used in many a high gain environment and they are far more chambered.

Yeah I was going to say we're not talking an ES135 hollow body here, the Thinline Teles have a very small chamber, and isn't that likely to be much more susceptible to feedback than most solid bodies.

Like I said, this was my experience with a telle vs. Thinline... ?
The Deluxe makes me droooooool, bigtime. Thinline, not so much.

actually in jazz world believe it or not tele's .........thinline of course and ones with a fat humbucker in neck position are quite common and sought after , even just a single coil at the neck can sound FAT ...................BUT NOT the solid body tele so yes the chamber does make a difference on the tone and a humbucker in neck position makes it just perfect .........

as for feed back on f hole guitars yes i use one and yes it does feedback at high volumes but if you want an f hole type thinline tele, you don't want it for high gain stages. its' a jazz/ electric folk/alternative type guitar with a fabulous tone btw and is a step away from the pure twang of a solid body tele........

Thanks guys, after some thought.. I've decided to go with the deluxe. I think it will suit my genre better and since I play a lot live with high volume the feedback might be a problem.

AND the deluxe is hotter ?
69 Thinline all the way (thats the one with the singles!!!! which to my understanding is only Reissued by Fender Japan...

The 72 Thinline is cool too, but to flabby I found.
The 72 Deluxe Mexican ones look great yes but I find they play similar to a squire....... I also find it annoying that so many "indie rock" bands have started using them..... Last coke fest Oasis were the only band the whole night who did not use one, and htey had the best tone.

The 72 Custom (thus small headstock, one single and one neck humbuggy) is a great guitar , real nice sounds out of it.....
I love my 69 thinline-shes a beaut! Yah mine is a 1996 Jap model. Squier have a classic vibe 69 Thinline now!
I also looked at the Custom 72. But thought the single coil isn't exactly right for my genre?

I mostly use the bridge pickup on my current guitar which has humbuckers.
