Most of you around here may remember Trevor Rabin. Yes, that's the guy from Jo'burg with the band Rabit and later guitarist for Yes, selling platinum with his hit Owner of a lonely heart. You must check out some of his lesser known music as well. All his solo albums are available on eMusic. Pretty much pop music with some progressive guitar works. Notably he was very fond of layering his guitars many times.
A song few people may know is Where Do We Go From Here? from the Dream and Variations album by Don Harper's Oceana Orchestra, also available on eMusic.
He is lately doing mainly soundtracks. A masterpiece was the soundtrack album for Amageddon, also with the trademark layered guitars. Very notable from this was his collaboration with Aerosmith. His latest Snakes on a plane and the soundtrack for Enemy of state are pretty awesome if you like smphonic stuff (with no guitars).

Thanks for the info on Trevor Rabin. Being a huge YES fan, I'm embarrassed to say that i didn't know that he is from Jo'burg.
I guess one learns something new everyday... ?

'Sfunny... I always thought he was from Cape Town. Weren't his parents both in the CTSO or something?

I just checked wikipedia.
"Rabin comes from a family of classical musicians in Johannesburg, South Africa, where his father was lead violinist for the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra."
I remembered him from his Rabot days playing in some club in Pretoria, Arcadia. It was kinda crazy with all the girls screaming and pushing. We just hung around at the back of the club.
