GFSA 1st Birthday Competition

NorioDS · 2008-09-09T15:33:44+00:00

We're running a competition to celebrate our 1st year of rocking in the forum! It's simple... 1. Record your OWN version of Happy Birthday (can be fusion, jazz, metal, punk, whatever!) 2. Upload it to the web using our funky new uploader tool thingie. 3. Create a new topic under "Recordings" and link to your recording and also upload some pics of you playing guitar. 4. I'll then turn your MP3 + pics into a video for YouTube so we can get more hits. If you want to make your OWN video, go ahead, it saves me time and will probably look a whole lot better! If you can record yourself playing your recording, that'd be the best! Just remember, you HAVE to put www.MarshallMusic.co.za AND www.GuitarForum.co.za at the beginning and end of your video. That's part of our deal with Marshall! If I'm doing the video for you, don't worry I'll add that in myself ? 5. We'll then put it to the vote and announce the winners at the end of October. It's that easy, so GET RECORDING! ? Prizes... Stuart (bless his soul) at Marshall Music has organised us the following prizes... 1st Prize: Digitech Grunge Distortion pedal (worth R795), plus a set of strings. 2nd Prize: 40%-50% off (depending on supplier) on any purchase over R500, plus a set of strings. 3 Runners-Up: Dean Markley strings, Martin strings, Kyser capos, Warwick rock cables. The winners will be decided by YOUR votes. Get recording already!

I've finished writing the song, It's pretty death metal so I'm sure I wont be wining with the lack of death metal fans here ?

Just gotta record it.

NorioDS

Dean, you'd be surprised at just how much death metal goes around here! You'll have some death-metal competition in this competition, I'm sure ?

jakjak

For those who need a start, here are some happy birthday tabs. If you choose one, tell us about it.

We could then help each other along.

Hey Norio

It seems that I cant add a topic to the competitions section. I have managed to upload my mp3 ? but cant add a topic here, so I just put it in the recording section ?

Heath

so garth whats the URL

Garth-S

Hey Tailon, the URL is - http://gfsa.s3.amazonaws.com/48/Birthday%20Jazz.mp3

Renesongs

Norio you should have added that chat thingy after the submissions were over, or better still only allow access to chat to those who have submitted their happy birthday tune because I don't think you going to get much response now ?

Sorry about that! It's cool where you put it though. I'll edit my original post to reflect that.

PS: I love it ? Awesome jazziness!

Rene, actually that's helping people get jazzed (hehe) about entering. Jakjak recommended the big-ass reminder at the top and I think that's helping too. So the chat is a helluva god-send!

WantzChas

Where can we listen to the uploaded entries?

Renesongs

Just stepping in for Norio here - There is an uploader button on the at the top of homepage. Once it has uploaded right click on the file to find it's link so that you can tell us where it is ?

FatBoy

I think the man means a central place where all entries can be found? Maybe it's a good idea to compile these into a single thread with the entries?

Like you were reading my mind.

Maby if norio can add a music player for the birthday songs, it will be easier to vote.
Just an idea, i know ther is not much time left to do something like this.

AlanRatcliffe

As you may or may not know Norio has a lot on his plate right now with a family emergency.

For the moment please upload files and place a link to them in a post here. We'll gather them all together once all the entries are in and create a vote.

We'll look at a player at the time too, but I'm not in a position to say that we will be able to do it for this competition.

Curmic

I also had trouble with being told I couldn't create a topic in the board when I followed the link.
