NorioDS
We're running a competition to celebrate our 1st year of rocking in the forum!
It's simple...
1. Record your OWN version of Happy Birthday (can be fusion, jazz, metal, punk, whatever!)
2. Upload it to the web using our funky new uploader tool thingie.
3. Create a new topic under "Recordings" and link to your recording and also upload some pics of you playing guitar.
4. I'll then turn your MP3 + pics into a video for YouTube so we can get more hits. If you want to make your OWN video, go ahead, it saves me time and will probably look a whole lot better! If you can record yourself playing your recording, that'd be the best! Just remember, you HAVE to put www.MarshallMusic.co.za AND www.GuitarForum.co.za at the beginning and end of your video. That's part of our deal with Marshall! If I'm doing the video for you, don't worry I'll add that in myself ?
5. We'll then put it to the vote and announce the winners at the end of October.
It's that easy, so GET RECORDING! ?
Prizes...
Stuart (bless his soul) at Marshall Music has organised us the following prizes...
1st Prize: Digitech Grunge Distortion pedal (worth R795), plus a set of strings.
2nd Prize: 40%-50% off (depending on supplier) on any purchase over R500, plus a set of strings.
3 Runners-Up: Dean Markley strings, Martin strings, Kyser capos, Warwick rock cables.
The winners will be decided by YOUR votes. Get recording already!

When does the competition end?
EDIT: sorry, I meant when do the entries close?
NorioDS
Ehhh, I never thought of that. Thanks Dean ?
Ermmm, the 14th of October. It's a Tuesday so I'd have one last chance to get people to send in their entries before our actual birthday ? Then we can all download the entries and dance like lunatics around our respective houses on the 15th ?
deanBailey
How long does the song have to be (minimum time at least)
glug
Can people add other instruments(drums) or just guitar as it is guitar forums
NorioDS
ANY length you want and ANY instruments provided there's guitar.
Your fellow forum-members will be the judges, so do keep that in mind.
CornFlakes
Is the voting going to be more focused on originality or technicality?
NorioDS
Neither, the vote is going to be based on how much your peers like your recording ?
If you play one REALLY loud chord and then sing happy birthday like a maniac, and people like that, you win!
FatBoy
I'll try to do one when I get back in SA, gawd I miss my guitar soooooo much!!!
*goes off searching for the tabs for happy birthday*

Manfred-Klose
I'm still doing the planning, going to keep it fast and short......kind of zakk wylde meets JS bach thing.
NorioDS
Damn Rene, I was hoping for a bluesy Happy Birthday from you!
Renesongs
Yeah, maybe I'm being a bit of a woos - I will have to put on my Tom Waits hat and give it another bash ?

LOL - I can think of several approaches for piano but not a so many for guitar (I have composed an 11min variation of Mendelssohn's Bridal march for piano . I would post it but this is a GUITAR forum after all)
