Ey me again..

Guys sorry for all the spamming of threads from me, I promise I'll be quiet for a while after this one... :?

Some of you may have seem my thread a couple if days back of a Fender JA-90 I'm planning to buy with my long time saved up money. But I just realized that a decent PA would make my (and the bands, and even possible future bands) life so much easier.

So I'm considering rather spending my Fender money on a PA.. I hate myself for saying it but I think it would be a better investment? I can always hire my PA out to other bands in the area at reasonable prices, as I know there is a problem with a lot of bands here. And then use the cash later for a guitar.

Alright what I actually wanted to ask is what can I expect a decent rugged PA for me cost?
We have 2 electric guitars, bass guitar, 2 female vocalists and loud drummer.
We play mostly to crowds of 200+. The area we play in goes from large halls to smallish clubs to rugbyfields.

We already own 2 vocal mikes and 1 instrument with cables as well as 2 80 watt monitors, if that helps..

My budget currently sit at about 9000.. Any suggestions on good PAs? I'm not familiar with them at all and I don't even
know if my budget is wayyyyy too small

You're not spamming and your enquiries are what this forum is all about. By discussing subjects and getting input from 'specialists' in their field, we all learn more and that's good. Keep the questions coming.

I'm no expert on PA's so I too wait in anticipation for those in the know to pass comment.
yeah 9 K will not get a lot at all if you want new......... just go online and check out prices.................for 9K you getting a new small PA.....NOT good enough for a hard rock band as you explain your style.........

but 9 K could be a good start ..in other words buy some gear you can expand on in future as cash comes in.......... but expecting to outrig a hard rock bands PA system for 9 K is not realistic.a duo's PA for local pub yes but not for a club .......

but you buying at the right time if you want 2nd hand gear ......... in january ( tomorro ? ) everyone who overspent on holidays and xmas will be starting to list gear they don't need in gumtree to sell it to pay the credit card bills........ so your timing is great if you have the cash and 2nd hand you will get more bang for your buck ........ but then risk that the gear could be faulty ...... and no gaurentee but way better prices and maybe some lucky giveaway price deals

personally i would rather buy your fender with your money and hire a PA when you need it .unless you doing so many gigs the rig will pay for itself in a few months .... as really rather sort your personal sound out 1st before you spend your hard earned cash on a PA for a band [
Dont get new.... just go with a second hand deal...... you get more for less, just check it out before you buy it, and test it.

If I decide to save and buy the PA. How much does such a system cost? An estimate?

I already own an alright Ibanez with Floyd Rose etc. I mainly need a new guitar because I don't use the tremolo bar on the floyd as much and would rather have more tuning freedom! But it's going to break my heart to rather spend the money on a PA rather than a shiny new Fender or something.. ☹

So I think I'm staying with my original plan.

We once before wanted to have professional sound done. And the dude asked R1000 for just the night! The entrance was free so we didn't go trough with it. We borrowed someones and it didn't sound so well..but was do-able.
Dude, i would never trade any of my Fenders for a PA...

the question has come up, if we need our own PA...... but I dont look at that as a job of the band........ thats the organiser, or the show needs to be big enough to cater to such demands........

R1000 is not that bad....... you just have to charge at the door

How high is up? Depends on quality, features, brands and discounts. A small PA, probably R10K - 20K, a midsize one about R50K - R150K and the sky is the limit on big systems. That's why bands usually own the PA together, grow it slowly over time and regard it very much as a business investment.

The last PA system I owned I bought piece by piece and it took about six months before I had a complete system. From there you grow it, adding on and upgrading speakers and amps, crossovers, monitors, etc.
