  • A hello from a guitarless person

Hey guys.

I found this forum yesterday, however, while I do not actually play guitar, I do create songs via virtual studios (I know not that exciting).

I cannot read or write music, and everything I know thus far has been from experience and trail and error. So even though I have been creating music for about nine years I still feel very much inexperienced. Which is why my music tends to sound very unprofessional (this is my opinion but I think it is quite accurate). If anyone has advice for me I will gladly pay attention ?

Other than that, I live near Cape Town, and while I do not own a guitar I would like to contribute to this forum where and whenever I can.

Happy music-making

Learn to play an instrument and take some lessons or find some other way of understanding the way that chords are constructed, that notes work relative to each other, the theory that underlies the music. I found that learning to play the guitar allowed me to appreciate different aspects of playing and music.

Since you chose to interact with us here on this forum I'd recommend the guitar - you'll get far more help here, find more synergies playing the guitar than, say, the trombone.

Whilst you're at it, explore genres other than that you consider to be your own. This will broaden your musical palette.
      Welcome to the forum.

I do agree with bob, get yourself a second hand acoustic guitar.
It will broaden your musical knowledge and is fun to play!
        Hi and welcome.
I agree completely - rather have a guitar that you can't play, but are learning ... than not have a guitar at all.
You will not find a more supportive group for beginners than the people on this forum.

            AAAAAAAAAalllllll right.

I have googled a few guitars, but I have NO idea what is what.

Any suggestions as to what I can get. And preferably something that is rather afordable...

            Thanks.

Buy 2nd hand. A 2nd hand guitar in decent condition gives you more bang per buck.

Since you haven't declared your location as many of do (see the little info box to the left of my post for an example) it's hard to give specific "go there" type of information.

Maybe read this http://www.ratcliffe.co.za/articles/buyerbg.shtml and decide on a budget.

Hey man welcome. Yep, just get a guitar and start playing. Any guitar, because sooner or later you're gonna buy another one, and another....before you know it, you will have lots of them and by then it doesn't matter anymore what you got first... ?
