Alas, this has now finally ended. Congrats to all the weekly winners!
Oh so it seems like my 11's are the ones that are really expensive, the 11-52. Go figure, saw a few elixirs for R269,but not the 11's.
Interesting, they were there for quite some time. If I remember correctly it was just for temp (pop up store?) Think it makes sense due save that rent rather or to move to an area that's busier.
Really? I did not know that. I was there in December looking for som D'addario's for my 12 string, ended up going to Music Experience
V8 I'm going to investigate this as I would like to give em a try. I am actually in Tableview,Cape Town and have been to the Gear Junkie in 2018 to book in my Epiphone for repairs.
But yeah, all the places I've seen had Elixrs in the R500 range. Maybe pay musicician clearance mart a visit (in Paarden Eiland) as wellYeah,I actually saw an Ibanez Acoustic with built in amp for R1100 on Marketplace,so there's that and one can pick up a fairly decent Fender acoustic also for around R2000.
Please please please tell me where you got Elixr's for R250-R300 as Bothers as well as Musiekwêreld's starting prices were R500
and quite keen to test em out(never played on elixr's - that I know of)
I must admit, I quite like D'addarios, especially the XT's copperwound and nicklewound that I use on the 12 string as they are very gentle on you finger tips in comparison to the cheaper strings that start feeling like barbwire after a yearYeah, I actually nearly had a heart attack when I saw the prices of some of these pickups
and 12 strings aren’t that expensive, so I'll have one for home to fiddle on and around the campfire and get another to plug and play. And maybe just get a fresh set of D'addarios for the Squire acoustic
Now that's the other thing, getting me to stand still in 1 place for a 45min set
(Not that I'm performing as yet,but one has to practice.)
I geuss I can use the Squier acoustic as it's already got built in pre amp and a cutaway, but let's be honest, there is just something about a Epiphone FT150 that's awesome to play. And I would quite like to make that and the 12 string Ibanez acoustic electric.I would love to see what the woody looks like on your acoustic and how it's setup.(as this is my first introduction to the woody's)
Or even these
O
Hey Wern
That is my concern as well, cutting into the body. I don't mind if the strap button doubles as a plug in. I am quite interested in Seymore Duncuns, but not a fan of wires. I got me a Rexer VR-2000 last year so quite keen on the wireless systems (If I don't trip over them, I rip them out or cause more damage)
This is what I have in mind.
Okay, so the genius that is known as Norio was able to help
Yes please
I can't load profile pics,I can remove a pic but not change a picI also want to delete my profile
Using both android and IOS at the moment and besides IOS not being able to get latest software,it does out perform the android(OS9) the only real advantage the android has over my iphone is the battery doesn't run down as quickly.
Regarding mac vs PC my only issue is Mac is overpriced. But windows 10 mobile is a bigger stuff up than windows Vista. They want you to use their app store, yet don't have 95% of the apps you want to use. Maybe I should try a different windows or just get rid of the damn laptop
Shocked to see Francios Traut from Traut Guitarworx in Cape Town wasn't even mentioned. He's absolutely brilliant
So I would love to make 3 of my acoustic guitars acoustic electric but not sure which route to go. Do I get pick ups or do I have those Fishmans built in(cut wholes in body
) There's one I saw that looks like a strap pin with 3 disc at the other end that (I assume) you stick down to the top of the body, but is it any good. What are your thoughts/opinion?
So as I mentioned before about the different online learning I've participated in recently. Fender Play tought you music theory to the extend of feeling overwhelmed and demotivated
Truefire is awesome, thus far, apart from doing the 2 sections of introduction to guitar first, then choosing your paths(the app is backwards, you choise your path and then get introduced) it's been great,The teach you all the chords available (Fender play sometimes dropped in a chord that you needed to figure out first),then they show you 30 different finger picking styles( I'm sorry, but I point blank refuse to grow my nails for finger picking- Mark Knopfler didn't and he's a finger picking expert and it looks gross). Tgere is also a few teachers there, one whom I've noticed is Tommy Emmanuel. So far I've not yet felt overwhelmed and learning way more. And it's for beginners all the way up to pros(let's be honest here, when do we stop learning the guitar- NEVER)
I would love to know who got to use the Gibson app and how are the lessons there? So I've rather been into the free online lessons for 3 months and have just joined another. So a year ago I started off with a 4 week course (8 lessons twice a week) with Shaw Acadamy. There I was for the first time ever introduced to tableture and suddenly I started learning songs. Today, exactly a year ago I finished the lessons. And with lockdown being a rumor I wasn't wasting unneccesary money(no wife/girlfriend=no extra income)
Then lockdown happens and is in full swing as of thursday and I'm left asking myself "f#$€,I definitly wanna learn more. So the Friday I decide to follow Fender on Instagram. Few hours later,I learned that Fender Play was offering anyone and everyone free online lessons for 3 months. And I was like, sign me up. So I asked how do I qualify and the Saturday morning,Fender inboxed me with a code and said to register. It was that easy. I could believe my luck,so I spend my whole saturday learning. Then I learned that there was a Fender Play App available,BUT I had to change my region to usa or where ever as it wasn't available in South Africa. But I got it and was well away, learning everything I can and boy,was there a shitload to learn, the a few pointless exercises(repeats) which started getting to me. Suddenly a chord(B7) got snucked in and no lesson and I had to just figure it out. Then came that dreaded F chord and more info and suddenly I'm overwhelmed and didn't want to touch my guitar for at least 3 days. No lessons,no youtube tips.Niks. So I eventually pull through and finished the 3month course and did all the paths and levels and songs. I now know more than I did,but already forgot somethings and have been demotivated an a few occasion. But now before the 3 months was over,Gibson announced that they are also doing free lessons online for 3 months. The nice thing is, it works similar to Yousician,so it listens to you play with play along songs and tells you wher you've gone wrong. Only trouble is, it's only available for the "newer" IOS and Android (not everyone can adford the latests & greatest as everything is so overpriced)
Then D'addario sends me an email stating they have teamed up with truefire which is also doing online lessons for 3 months for free and I have already done a few lessons and am enjoying it so far. So they show you 2 chords, how to strum using whole notes and quater notes, how to pick up the pace and then jamming with a "band" so you can get a better feel for what you're doing.
It's also available on IOS,Android as well as Windows and you can also join without the promo code(just not sure what access you get without promo code)
Ironically,I can play linger from the Cranberries, not flawlessly, but it just suddenly came together. I have retaken up Hurt by Johnny Cash and it’s going at least. And even though Barracuda and Thunderstruck are easy riffs,I can’t speed up
