Quick Strat Opinion

I hate it when a quick pup change turns into a massive project.
I stripped my Squier to change pups and had this design on it. I figured I may as well take it off but seemed to have sanded off more than i can chew...

should I leave it as is with a new coat of clear or go the whole hog and strip it completely and respray it something new.

If I do refinish it completely I want to go for something REALLY cool, and suggestions are welcome... ?

I think I'll leave it as is for now with a quick clear coat to protect the bare wood.

Looks like the Fender Shelby GT .......... looks cool........ ? Clean lines, very modern.........! I don't really like the Monterey Hendrix Strat, I think he painted that in a totally goofed state ......... too 60s, bell-bottomed flower-child(y)...... but that's just me....

obviously this thread is asking for opinions, so i'll be frank with mine :-[

i really don't understand or like the whole racing stripe vibe on a guitar, mostly due to the lack of class. guitars are meant to be classy, and possibly flashy, but not racing striped. leave it for the fast cars 8)

i'm also not very much a fan of your previous finish scheme. looks like something pg happened there ? ?

i think the monterey strat looks good, something like that but maybe a bit more understated would be cool.

i like the idea of a metallic gold, possibly if you could get close to the colour of vic's new LP, i it would look mad.

otherwise what i'm planning for when i build my tele sometime soon is to go for a darkish red stained wood body with a black pickguard.

Vic's LP is an inspiration I must say... Gold is very cool. that Monterey strat sounds like a fantastic idea but I don't have the means to do that.

The Strat with stripes is the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Strat. His fans like Nascar so it fits... ?

I searched everywhere for Nitro in cans when I did my Gibson. But never found it. I have heard rumours that you can get Nitro (like in a paint tins) and then shoot it with a spray gun (thats if a mate of yours has one). So that would most likely be you best option if you set on Nitro.

You guys probably know this better than me, but I heard shooting metallic paint from a gun is pretty difficult. And apparently you can end up still spitting out little metal flakes the next time you use the spray gun.

Maybe if you went the gold nitro route it might be worth getting someone who already has the rig to do it?

That gold strat looked even better than I imagined. It'd be a very unusual guitar.

Anyway, the whole thing has great voyeur potential Don, so keep us updated ?

I would say, if you wanted to go all out with a solid colour like gold or whatevs, that you take it to a panelbeater and ask them to spray it for you. I'm sure they'd also be able to supply you with some good paint (even if its not nitro). I just did a project bathroom cabinet out with some black metallic paint my dad had left over from when he got a car built for him and it looks amazing.
