isn't it easier to get a local electro plater to plate existing ones just as you want ..... could even do some "signiture" engraving work at the same time
I want to get solid nickel ones, more transparent. And I'd also like to get ones that are pretty accurate historically, i.e corners, dimples etc.
Funny about these things ? At R150 a set I think it's worth it. Don't want to use these brass tone suckers you find locally..
It is worth getting the right thing for tonal transparency. All pickup covers affect the tone somewhat thanks to eddy current losses. Plated brass is the worst and pure nickel silver (A.K.A. "German" silver) is the best. There is also a bit of a microphonic effect, but that can be minimised with proper potting.

Just beware - there are at least four different polepiece spacings: vintage Gibson - 49.2mm; Modern Gibson - 50mm; DiMarzio F-spaced - 51mm; Other F-spaced - 53mm. I say "at least" because I've run across everything from 48mm to 54mm.

I do need a pair of covers, but would prefer chromed nickel silver and need a DiMarzio F-spaced for the bridge (51mm). I'm probably just going to get a pair of Schaller open covers from Guitar Jones:

They work on any spacing, protect the coils and provide a good fit for humbucker mounting rings and the design helps make them pretty transparent.
Interesting, will have to contact Zhang and find out exactly what spacing he uses.

I am mainly going for it as the pafs had em and I believe the slightly higher raised poles combined with the shielding might get me closer to that territory. Oh and cause they look REALLY good ?

Hi Alan, where is Guitar Jones? My humbuckers on my PRS SE Tremonti have 2 sizes - 49.2 mm on the neck and 52.3 mm on the bridge, so was keen to compare the prices for nickel covers. Guitarpartsresource.com will cost me around R296.00 incl delivery.
