Hi all,
I have a 12 inch "California" speaker made in the USA that I had in an old speaker cabinet. Its rated at 300W and 8 ohm.
my question is, would connecting this to a lower wattage amp of 8 ohms harm the amp at all? or is this a simple case of the resistance matches, plug in and jam away...
reason I ask is I am thinking of using it as an extension speaker...

The wattage on any speaker is supposed to tell you what the maximum power is that the thing can handle. For all sorts of technical reasons manufacturers can't seem to agree on how to properly do this so it is an indication at best. Less power is never a problem for a speaker if you let the sound fall in the frequency range it is intended for.
