  • GFSAers in action! TJ's Acoustic Music Club - October 21st

TJ's have given me the opportunity to put together a show for them. I think I've been fortunate enough to assemble a good line up.

I didn't want to invite GFSAers to perform just because they're GFSAers. But as we all know, there is real talent amongst the GFSA ranks, and three of our members will be performing on the night - that's half the bill. This is an opportunity to learn their real names, see their faces ? and, most of all, appreciate their skills and their music.

Performers (in alphabetical order)
  • Conrad
  • Fingerpicker (and his band The Cellphone Cowboys)
  • Karryn & Tash
  • Squonk
  • Tom Howden
  • Thomas Selmer-Olsen
I am thrilled that all these performers accepted the invitation and will be giving of their time and talent for the evening.

Venue: Marks Park sports club, Judith Road, Emmarentia, Johannesburg
Date: Thursday October 21st
Time: Music starts at 20:00, doors open at 19:30
Admission: R20

Food and drinks available.

I've created a facebook event
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129391760446812
Feel free to spread the word.

Come along. This is going to be a good evening.

I am going to try make this one

Thanks for the heads up Bob 8)
      Ok.... here's a map. Now there's NO excuse ?

The main entrance to the Marks Park complex is circled in red. There is a boom at the gate with guards, so parking is secure. The guys on the gate are always helpful. Tell them you're here for TJ's and they will direct you.

As you look at the map Melville is south along Beyers Naude Drive, Cresta and Northcliff Corner are North-West along Beyers Naude and Auckland Park & Empire Road are south along Barry Hertzog.

Conrad has been really difficult and demanding ? and so I have to make some alterations to the seating scheme for this show.

That being the case, it might be useful to reserve a front table or two for GFSA if there's sufficient interest. That might make it easier to make sure that nobody moves those carefully placed tables around. Also to control flash photography which, for reasons that will become clearer at the time, I would prefer to not have during Conrad's set.

I created a facebook event for this show, and some GFSAers have responded there.

        Who else intends coming along?
          I'm there!

If you are reserving a GFSA table save me a seat plz
I want to come see hey. But I dont know.

You should come. I want to meet you and the others...

And so you should. Ray is a thoroughly nice guy.

                BUT

It's a long way to come, you know, from out there in the East, close to where you fall off the edge of the map and the dragons eat you. Ray would have to get the car serviced and stock up on dehydrated foods and energy drinks.

Haha. It is not all that bad! If he were coming from Krugersdorp (like evolucian) he would have to bring a pet lion for protection as well....
I'd try come. Come my year project due the next day though, so I can't make any promises. Will be able to confirm a day or two ahead.

Amended line-up. Thomas Selmer-Olsen now joined on-stage by Mark Peters.

                      Everything else stays the same.

LOL sorry! You know I never suspected I would be an anal human when I grow up but alas....

Thanks for all the trouble Bob.

                        C

                          Well we aim to please.

I managed to source the grapes grown on a south-facing slope (they come from the Northern hemisphere, so I hope that's all right) as well as the licorice-free licorice allsorts. But the pirahna sushi ? .... very hard to come by here in Joeys.

We have put in screening procedures at the door so that only the most attractive specimens will be allowed at the tables that will be in your line of sight. Unfortunately this means that the GFSA table is under the counter in the kitchen.

Dealing with artists is quite an educational experience for me.

Thank you Bob. I'm sure you understand my request re: the grapes since the Coriolis force renders grapes' taste lopsided because of their location (as you have pointed out) relative to the equator. It is because of this that grapes from the Northern hemisphere only taste sweet on the left side of the grape and of course the converse is true for grapes from the Southern hemisphere.

This makes for tough packaging since the grape's good side must be tagged at time of picking in order to store it in it's native state in it's container but this is well worth it as I'm sure you understand.

As for the attractive specimens being tested at the door, I am gracious enough to limit my line of sight to an Eastern direction for the 1st half of the evening (to accommodate you of course)
After my last post, I suddenly feel it's necessary to promise that I will not talk at the gig.
                              :-[
