Maybe I was just unlucky to have only experienced weaker laney monitors but it wasn't the clarity or tone of the monitors that I have the most problem with. By "I" I really mean my drummer. It's that it's never loud enough, as we play with a kick trigger live (only ever really need guitars and kick in the monitor) and if you boost that too much It starts damaging the monitor. So we always end up playing with less than satisfactory on stage sound.
Next investment: In-ear Monitors! ?

You need a ton of headroom to put a kick sample in the monitors as you need a ton of headroom - even if you compress the hell out of it.
Drumming, the only time I was ecstatic about the monitors was when Kevin Winder did the sound and gave me a 600W Cerwin Vega F.O.H speaker as a monitor powered by a Crown 2400 ("Oh so that's what the bass guitar sounds like"). Those were the days before IEMs though - I would have killed for that.

We're running the Aviom system at the moment, really cool way of running IEMs... No constant comms with the sound guy about ur own mix.. Makes sound check a lot easier too, well per band member anyway
