Craig
Well, i dont consider it the best set up in even my eyes, but for now, ive played around so much with my pedal, amp and guitar, ive finally gotten a signature sound out of my set up.
I use a Ibanez S 520EX, with a Zoom 505II (say what you want about a zoom, but i find their proccessing capabilities to be more faster than most BOSS proccessors) and my old faithful, my Marshall AVT50 all valve amp.. (Which again i will say, murders most 150watt amps out there) ive been messing around for years with this set up, and the 505II for me gives off a "cleaner" and more crisper distortion than the BOSS MetalZone i used to jam with..
Comments are welcome, and if you have any tips about any one of my "helpers" please let me know, im open to any help with regards to making the most out of my set up.. (cause im no pro at doing it myself)

Cool starting rig Craig, just to let u know though, the AVT range from marshall isn't all tube, it's only half, quite a big difference.. The Marshall all tube range is the JCM range.. (just some info)
Fender American Telecaster - Ibanez Tu2 - Boss Cs3 - Fulltone Fulldrive 2 -Boss DD20 - Vox ac30..

I actually used to have a Zoom 505II. That's the one that looks like military equipment, right? It was a good starter pedal. Served me quite well, but I regret not really getting to know it properly before moving on (I didn't put it to its max use.) Do you have the grey model of the s520ex?
I wish I'd gone for your amp first, I really do.
Craig
Thanks for the info teleplayer.. Now i know the difference lol.
And yeah its the military looking thing he he, but mine is this lame see thru blue thing.. The Ibanez is the grey one, i saw a lime coloured one the other day and couldnt stop laughing, looked very funky.
Ive been contemplating selling my amp, but the hard question, is what do i get after that?
teleplayer
After that u get a JCM if u wanna stay with Marshall, I love my Vox ac30, it has the exact tone I want.. It's all about the sound u going for.. The big boys r generally, Vox, Marshall, Fender, Mesa, and sometimes peavy(my brother has the classic 30-all tube, sounds amazing for heavy stuff)
Plug into all of these with UR guitar and see what u like, don't worry about what the salesman says, try them all!!! they all have great sounds, it's all ur to ur ears from there
IMO u should go for a tube amp, once u there, and u got more cash and r willing to upgrade FX, get a really nice overdrive and build up pedal by pedal from there..
Craig
Thanks for the help.. im a fan of Marshall, but im also interested in the Laney Amps.. like the LX120T twin combo.. or the LV300T..
I want to check out those two before reaching for the JCM Marshalls or the mode fours.. i hear the mode fours are incredible.
I have a long way to go with my pedals though, cause im rather picky with how i want my set up, i dont like having 6+ pedals infront of me on stage, so i want to look into the guitar processors, but having a hard time choosing between BOSS, digitech or Roland. also would love a Dimebag crybaby wah, saw one for R200 awhile back, and im kicking myself for not buying it

The thing I've experienced is if u wanna go processing, go for that route, but keep that through out ur rig, I had a GT-8 through my Vox ac30, i tweaked it for years, literally, I ended up with an acceptable sound, but it just didn't do it for me.. I then plugged my pedal into a transistor amp, and actually got better results.. Not like what i'm getting now with my boutique overdrive through my Vox, but IMO useable..
What i'm trying to say is, if u wanna go processing, go all out, get a line 6 flexitone (i think they called that) with a nice multi-fx board.. If u wanna go the purist route(more expensive) then go for it, u can do it in stages as i said before though.. IMO, single pedals, a great sounding guitar through a good tube amp is the better way.
And u don't have to have lotsa pedals, i have a tuner, a comp, od and delay.. That's a small board, i wanna add a Wah and for now that's all I need.. I think a lot of guitarists have the idea that if they have lotsa pedals they will play better, sounds crazy when I say it, but u won't believe how true that is.. I often go to gigs where guys see a guitarist with a huge pedal board and immediately he must be an amazing guitarist? Often the guy just has a cool wallet rather than talent..

im also interested in the Laney Amps
Some nice sounding amps, but notoriously unreliable... and take ages to get fixed.
Craig
I believe what your saying teleplayer.. ive seen many guys with massive pedal boards, leading people on that they are insane gutarists, yet they lack the technique to use it all..
Im actually interested in the GT-8.. but i think what i should do, is sit down one afternoon in my local music shop, and just try out everything, cause i need to hear what im buying..
And thanks for the tip alan.. my bro has a Laney BT10 (i think thats what its called, bass amp.. and it gives off such a warm tone.. he has not had trouble with it yet. But time will tell

You have to spend time with the GT-8. The presets are mostly crap and you have to spend the time making a few patches of your own before you really get a good idea what it is capable of.
teleplayer
I agree, sad thing is that plenty players stick to presets, kinda kills the point of having such a powerful effects processor...
The thing i did love about my old GT-8 was it could be run on manual mode, so it felt like u had real pedals.. Boss also have their delays sorted, which is y i got a DD20 as soon as i could
andrewjbryson
The GT8 has the SLDN PreAmp , probably the best sounding Drive for rhythm/ lead tracks
if you using a guitar with Humbuckers.
bypass the Compressor, its noisy, rather compress with software,
Make sure you are running Single Mode ...
Dual Mono/ etc , is cool but not ideal for recording tracks in Cubase
I like to also bypass any Cab / Speaker Simulators , (once again Gimmicks IMO) ,
set Speaker Emulation to Type Original....
Craig
All very good points.. Ill need to think hard before i consider splashing cash out on the pedals, then later find out they are not what i want. thanks guys.. learning some valuable info from you all! \m/ much respect

My good friend has a Laney LC30 class A valve amp, and he uses a Squire Vintage Modified Thinline Tele, and man oh man does he get the most awesome tone. IMO that amp really packs a punch. Pics are attached. If u can get a hold of an LC30 you will be very happy.
Craig
Sweet.. ill look into that amp man, thanks for the advice.. oh and to make a correction, it's not a 505II i got.. tis a 606 lol.. me and my bad memory.

Alan, does that apply to their powered stage monitors as well?? Come to think of it, it should, hey :-[
Bought the CXP-112 a while back, and I'm worried now!

No, it's more their valve amps. I was actually quite surprised by the quality of tone from the Laney powered monitors and haven't heard of any reliability issues at all.
@Martyr - Hey! I started out on a Studio Pro too - one of the late 80's styled silver ones though. They had a terrible sounding line out in those days, but I think yours has a speaker sim on the line out, doesn't it.

Thanks dude...i got the Epiphone for a real good deal,R3400 with Stagg hardcase, gold strap locks and noiseless cables, all about 4months old(guy needed money to buy a motorbike, poor guy ?)
only problem is it has a small "nick" on the 16th fret(by the B string),but i've learnt to play around(well over it)...

i honestly don't know,gonna try find out
