Hi everybody!
Whilst I am new here, I have misbehaved by posting one or two things prior to introducing myself.
So hello everyone, I'm Matthew from Cape Town, and I love guitars.
I do, however, have many interests, sometimes to the others detriment, for eg: selling my rebuilt Epiphone korina Explorer to get a gaming pc, or selling my Gibson Voodoo SG to get my bike (Which has now been stolen!), etc...
I've had a couple of guitars and amps to date, but at the moment only have one of each:
I have a very rare, early 90s, british made, Starfield (discontinued Ibanez venture) VT100 all valve 2/12 Combo, Celestion Drivers (I forget which ones exactly).
I really love this amp! Got it for a steal too. Iv'e heard of another one or two in SA, gimme a shout if you have any info on it.
And my guitar is an old, cheap AriaPro Jackson copy, which I've always had whilst the others came and went.
I've fitted some old, unkown Dimarzio into it, and it plays great.
But IMO, I just need a great amp, I can work with any guitar which I'm comfortable with.
Yes, I do still want many guitars, but the'll have to wait.
I do share a common interest through out all my interests, and that is DIYing, I must always design and build things, and always try do things myself before spending money, not only because I'm cheap, but because learning to do things yourself is very rewarding, and if you don't attempt things which intimidate you, you learn very little.
I'm currently embarking on a pickup-building mission, so if any like-minded people want to share supplies or ideas, gimme a shout.
Personal experience with which I can help pople with:
-Well I'm a graphic designer, I use CAD programs to design circuit-boards, vinyl cut-outs, perspex pick-guards and such. I'm currently designing some flatwork to laser cut, so anyone needing help with any of that give me a shout.
-I also have some experience in electronics, I use to work at an electronics shop, so I can advise on where to find things. I've also built an effects pedal or two, and have modded a couple of my guitars.
-I also used to to be a salesmen at bothners a couple of years back, I also set-up some guitars, installed new pickups and what not.
So give me a shout if you need any advice, I'm no expert, but will advise where possible.
