  • Shipping my guitars to my new home

Well, hopefully sooner than later our Visa's will be done etc. meaning that I will need to get at least my Cort X-1 (my first guit bought by my wife, sentimental value) over to the UK and if possible also my EVL-Z4.

Any of you know the approx prices of shipping the guitars?

If not, any contacts or method of finding out prices as I dont know the dimensions of cases and weights?
Try to get a handle on the cost to you of shipping with insurance V the cost to you of selling here and replacing there.
Bob, I have looked at that and the X1 will be cheaper over there, but it has huge sentimental value and even my wife wants it over there.
Call the airline you will be using, maybe you can take the guitar on the plane as carry on.
Do you have a hard case for the guitar?
no but ill buy one before I go. We more than likely going to have the stroller with us on the plane, so I doubt Ill get the guit on as well.

Carry the kid unto the plain, and put the guitar in the stroller ?

Kidding, maybe you can take the guitar and your wife the stroller.
Like I said, phone them! It is easy to twist their arm on international flights.

            Who are you flying with?
Dont know yet. Going to book the flights once the Visa's are done.

Looking at BA or Emirates (if we take a stop over flight)

I am almost certain that if you fly BA or Emirates you won't have a problem with taking the guitar on the plane!
inflames, problem is its my wife and my carry on with a baby bag + the stroller and now the guit as well...

Ill see what I can do and maybe just try and pre-organise it.

Dude, I've done this so many times, with two babes, stroller, wife, baby bags, laptop bag and guitar. Get a good case or heavy duty bag and hand it/them to the flight attendants as you board. They will make sure it's stashed safely and hand it to you on landing. ?
Do they do this with the stroller as well?
infernox wrote: Do they do this with the stroller as well?
Yes, last time i flew they would not allow the stroller in the overhead compartments ...

And this was allowed on international?

Also what did you use to calm the babies down?

The stroller had to be handed in ...

My wife went to doc an got a prescription for a sedative ...we flew to New Zealand which is many hours first to sydney 14 hours ,4 hour layover then 4 hour flight to wellington...

adter a couple of hours on the sydney flight we gave kid an he slept the rest of the way ... important that kid is awake when u take off sucking a bottle or sweet or something to allow ears to equalise ...

Yes, they'll take the stroller from you on boarding and stash it too *call your airline and check* Ummm. Not sure about sedation for kids ? try Rescue Remedy from any pharmacy (some vets recommend it it for pet transport too!)
How old is your little one? Traveling with kids is stressful because I always worry I'm bothering people but actually its fine man. Travelling to UK? Overnight? The flight ain't THAT long anyway...
We might be going overnight or depending on price have a stop over in Dubai...

She will be about 2 years when we fly
I'm having 5 guitars shipped from the UK to SA - costing about R2500 with insurance - but sure I'll have to pay R500 to R1000 duties. I used this company www.anglopacific.co.uk and apart from the wait, which I expected, they have been loaded onto a ship and are floating my way - expected here October 22
Do they do from here to there?

                                    Just emailed them

also found www.ubag.com (i think this URL is right)
