First Up: My Gibson Marauder...

I bought this back in 2001 (I think) along with a 200W Marshal Major Head (which I managed to blow while playing at extreme volumes that even made the light above my head sway) and an angled Marshall 4x12 cab loaded with Celestion Greenbacks. I then sold the Amp and cab about 2 years later for R3500 as I decided it was waaaaaay to heavy to lug around with me. Here are pics (not my own) of what the amp and cab looked like:

Awesome Gibson. What is the condition like?

More importantly, what does it sound like?

The guitar is a Gibson Marauder. Gibson introduced them in 1974 as a more budget line of guitars as opposed to the Les Paul. Im not sure of the exact year of mine as the the serial number is rather elusive and I havent dated the pots yet. However the ones with the rosewood fingerboards were all between 74-77, so mine would sit somewhere there. For a much more info check out http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/marauder.php

The condition in the pictures above is very average, when I bought the guitar, someone had tried to refinish her and the job was not well done at all to say the least! The laquer had cracks everywhere and there is a clear line where they sanded around the logo so as to not remove the name. Since then the guitar has changed a couple of time due to the fact that its not really a collectors item. First a mate dared to to spray it lumo pink...so i figured why not, i do want to refinish properly at some stage anyway...so for a year she was lumo pink (which was insane when you were on stage and blue light was shone on the guitar as it then glowed!). I then decided i loved the blue sunburst on the Les Pauls and so refinished her like that....here are the pics:

Im still currently toying with the idea of skimming the top and then placing a maple cap on her. Or otherwise just going back to the original finish when I can get my hands on some clear nitro laquer.

Sound wise, a nice warm round tone would best describe her. Typical Gibson humbucker tone at the neck, however the bridge pup is rather high and terrible. Im very keen on popping in some P90's to see what they'd sound like!!
But I must admit, as my first electric it was a GREAT buy!!

I would have killed for that marshall cab!
That marauder is cool, i think you should leave it with the blue burst. All I would do is put a pickup cover on the humbucker.
snazzy cab............. but you should definatly carry your guitar properly....... the shoulder just does not work.........

Yeah that cab was amazing! and sounded even better!!! I love the tone from celestion greenbacks!

As for the blue burst...What the actual plan is, is to get proper translucent blue nitro and finish the guitar 100% properly! then put on a white pearloid scratchplate, and then change out the neck pup for another gibson hb or a P90

Mika: As for carrying it on the shoulder...I had to do that for a photoshoot and it was one of the better pics of the guitar when it was it original colour.

                      NOW for my main baby:

My 84'-87' (Not sure as the E serial number depicts guitars made somewhere between those years) 62' Reissue Jap Strat in surfoam green.

I bought the guitar from a guy that used it for blues. It has a bone nut, 2 extra spings on the trem and the std pup's have been replaced with texas specials. The pups have been set very low, but I actually quite enjoy them there as it means I can drive my amp a bit harder. The tone controls have also been disabled and only the vol control works. All the mods were done by the previous owner. At some stage when I have time I will play a little with it and try better the tone, but for now, she sounds AMAZING through both a vox AC30CC2 and a fender bassman with AB165 circuit...
Why does that headstock look sanded down, grrrr >☹ Such a nice guitar ...

SADLY ☹ ...somewhere along its lifespan, the headstock was cracked and repaired. So whoever did the repairwork sanded the top bit and then tried to cover up the repair work! The guitar plays perfectly and stays in tune forever so thankfully it hasnt affected it. BUT IMO you never try cover up a repair!! It just makes it harder if you ever need to redo the job! AND now there's a really bad colour on the headstock as well!!

That said, at least she plays amazingly and sounds phenominal as well!
