A friend would like to know whether anyone teaches Flamenco in Cape Town?
Flamenco lessons Cape Town
I'll ask around but there will definitely be someone like that down there.lindsmuse wrote: A friend would like to know whether anyone teaches Flamenco in Cape Town?
Thank you.

Ha ha, both of you have quotes from old composers.
More to the point, I was looking for a teacher a few years back, but alas, the only contact I got was for a rather rude gentleman, who I'm quite glad was not able to teach. My phone conversation consisted of "Hi, I got your number from so and so, are you able to teach?" Him (angrily):"Why do you people keep phoning me, no I'm too busy, I'm in Jhb now" slams down phone.
Put me off wanting to look for a flamenco teacher actually. It would be nice if you found one Conrad.

This is why I have an online teacher. Video conference via Skype but I will keep looking. More likely to find one in the Cape than in Gauteng.
Over here we have Charl Lamprecht but we are now talking of a 6 month waiting period...excuse me? If I wanted lessons from someone as busy and important as the pope I would not have asked for a local guitarist. Ahem....sorry...

I'm being serious. It IS for a friend! ?
Thanks for feedback Conrad. Have passed it along. There is no way in hell I will be able to do this stuff unless of course Paco himself was teaching me - then I would DEFINITELY make a plan.
Conrad. Do you actually get taught over skype?Conrad wrote: This is why I have an online teacher. Video conference via Skype
@Lindsey: My teacher is as good as Paco. In fact the only reason he has a career in the US now is because of Paco.
@Viccy: What is the name of the rude old man? Would you mind sending me a PM with his name? Coz I have names now and I don't want to put Lindsey through the pain of speaking to someone like that.
@FruitarGeek: Yes.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but I've blocked his name from my mind. Who knows, maybe he's moved on from his diva phase anyway.

Who is he? I have sent the link along but didn't look myself. It must be interesting to watch someone receive a flamenco guitar lesson over skype. Actually entertaining in itself!
There was a guy around about a year ago who was aggressively marketing himself as a flamenco teacher. But I tried one or two of his lessons and that actually put me off. They were like 'ticklers'. Not real lessons but more or less showed you that there was no way in hell you would be able to play unless you followed this guy to the ends of the earth! Maybe I'm wrong but that's how it felt for me.
But it is such a noble art the playing and teaching of this form, that I find it hard to believe that there would be be people just in it for the money (teaching it). It has a mystique to it and I'm sure these guys are in such demand ... can't understand that.
Anyway I'm sure you count yourself fortunate indeed that you are learning and playing this amazing style of guitar playing. Its tapping into history and some ancient culture and tradition - but using modern technology!
@Lindsey:
This is him when he was 9 (I think)
and this is him I think about a year ago:

Incredible!
:sorry: It suddenly occurred to me that my recent posts might appear as if I was trying to show of so I want to apologize to those who might have experienced it that way.

Wa ha, I don't know if we're talking about the same posts, coz I don't see anything that looks like showing off.
Agree with Viccy
Looks like you paying respect to someone who has a great ability! Loved it!
Oh OK. Phew... ?
um ... no.Conrad wrote: :sorry: It suddenly occurred to me that my recent posts might appear as if I was trying to show of so I want to apologize to those who might have experienced it that way.
