I think your best bet here is to buy a 2nd-hand Squire Tele and raid it for the hardware and neck. Build your own body, upgrade the electronics and pickups, and give the neck a complete refinish and re-dress, and install a decent replacement nut. I doubt you're going to be able to get the same parts any cheaper than that.
thats a good idea but squier have different parts, right?
Than the GuitarFetish parts originally being looked at by the OP? Yes I'd certainly consider them different ... in a better way. Of course the Squire parts won't be the same as Fender USA parts, but then that was never on the cards for this build based on the pricing concerns.
The point was that with a 2nd had Squire (which I think would come in around 1200-1800 depending on condition (and model of course), the OP would have a neck that was serviceable (and he could test it beforehand), as well as hardware to get going with. This left him the opportunity to re-make the body, re-profile and refinish the neck, and do all the minor tweaks that make a build exciting. Building a neck is not easy .... something that looks like a neck yes, but then the frets have to be installed and scale lengths start to come into play. Might be a great looker, but never intonate across the fretboard.
