Work / life balance (warning: I am whining)

We have an audition today but had to ask owner of venue if we can have it later because I couldn't get away at work. I often find myself in this situation. This is like balancing a marble on a balloon. You pay too much attention to music and tremendous stress ensues because your livelihood is suddenly in jeopardy. You pay too much attention to work and you lament being prevented from using your talent. It's like the balance between the 2 is just 1 infinitely small point somewhere. :'(

I feel like my character was brought into question and I hate that.

Oh, That I can understand. Preconceptions are a pain, so many taboos for so many people it's a miracle we even manage to put one foot in front of another. It's very hurtful, especially when I see it being done to people who are not in a position to change their circumstances. Often the ones pointing fingers are just using it as a bully tactic that usually gets them what they want. I just keep on a slightly disturbingly cheerful smile that says, "oh sorry, were you saying something, I was too busy thinking about how awesome I am".

Wow, even I'm not skilled enough at that. My twitch just happens on it's own. I have once caught it, and then held my eye closed and then walked over to the person annoying me and then said "if I let go this eye is going to twitch and it's your fault". Close enough I guess.

In my adult classes I have had Doctors, Lawyers, a few Chartered Accountants, a University professor, many Postgraduates Students, Actuaries, Astronomers, Engineers, CEO of a Companies, Restaurateurs, Journalists, Graphic Artists, Teachers, I thinks I've made my point. I believe if we were to examine the credential of the members of this forum alone the list would be even more highly esteemed.

Guitarists' images come in all shapes and sizes, from Paco de Lucia (or Chritopher Parkening if you want a true square, daddy-o) to Keith Richards. Long may it remain that way.
