Ok so... I know A, Amin, C, D, Dmin, E, Emin, G and Gmin... now for art value I really want another guitar so I need to start saving up brownie points.
The choice is between the
Cort EVL-Z2 with a Agathis body (only decent specs I could find was :
http://www.beyondeleven.com/Cort-EVL-Z2-EVL-Series-Electric-Guitar-p/cort-evl-z2.htm)
or must I rather save up a bit longer for the EVL-Z4 with a Mahogany body.
Even if I dont continue playing (which there is a 0.00001% chance of), I would still like to buy this as I think its the most beautifull design I have ever seen.
Your comments are appreciated.

If I was (and I was) in your position, I would not get the second guitar straight away (and I didn't ?) . Play the guitar you have for a year or two. See what styles (with or without floating bridge, humbuckers, single coils, p90s, strats, teles, LPs) you like best. You may not like the Corts much after a few years. Keep saving your guitar money though, things will start to annoy you at some point, like your amp and good amps are rather expensive as are good guitars. Besides, the guitars you show are not that much better than the one you already own. I say, upgrade when you know what you like and upgrade to something good. In your case, possibly the ESP Ltd Eclipses, if you like that sort of twin humbucker metal guitar. But I can almost assure you that long before then you'll want an amp with glowing bottles inside, we all get that urge at some point (took me 8 years tho). I have a cheap guitar too. Its an Epiphone Les Paul, bolt-on neck, upgraded pickups. Not highly regarded in anyone's book, yet its still my only guitar after 10 years of playing. I reckon in another year or two I'll need something better (OK ,maybe you'll improve a lot faster than I do).
Also, your amp has as big an influence on the tone as your guitar, maybe more. But less so than what comes from your hands.
Beware the GAS. Better equipment doesn't make you sound much better.

Don't waste your money. Save up for a valve amp. By then your ears might start working.
Also don't buy it cause it's pretty. And get more experience before you but another guitar. Maybe you want a tele kinda sound, or a floating bridged EMG'd monster. Every guitar is a different colour, your amp is the brush and you're the artist.
Buying a new guitar now is very very silly.

The Cort EVL Z4 is not only a sexy guitar but must have the most comfortable neck I've played on(mind you the list of guitars I've played is not overly extensive).
I was lucky enough to have it as my first electric guitar after deciding acoustic wasn't for me. So I would recommend it to anyone. Can't compare the Z2 though because I haven't played it.
+1 to GAS being a danger. Took me two years of spending more time watching gear demo's and drooling over Gumtree pages than playing to realize that equipment only does so much. Technique is just as if not more important.
Then again new gear does motivate you to practice a whole lot more and open's your playing up sometimes depending on the gear.
I'd say take a few months do some research, play a few guitars and then rethink if a second guitar is ultimately necessary. I bought a second one and found that my first guitar was all I needed at the time and sold it soon after.
Just my opinion. ?

+1 MikeM.
I only started playing about 2 years ago, and then I went out (without thinking about it much (although it felt like I did)) and bought a metal guitar and a metal amp, which I now heavily regret. Hindsights a b%^*h. I've only just bought my second guitar, a 1960's harmony archtop jazzy type of guitar which I've converted to an electric (P90 at the neck), and I'm really enjoying it. Now to get a tube amp ?.
What you really want to do is play for a year or two, go to some gigs, listen to good music and find the path you want to take musically.. You will be able to make a much better decision once your ears "start working" and you start to understand tone.

Look upgrading... or buy extra always motivates me as I dont want to spend money and not use it.
The reason I got back into guitar was because I fell in love with the z2, so no offence Tauriq, but that whole EVL range is sexy but the Z2/4 guitars are just apples of my eye, products of desire.
I understand that its more than one thing which makes guitar playing so darn good/pretty, but I will feel a lot more confident with that EVL and thus push myself to work harder and learn more. Thats just me.
Ive set myself a goal and thats to play Rise Against songs in 5 months and 3 weeks, so according to all the things Ive read and people I have spoken to, they all say this is a great rock/metal guitar.

I'm all for you upgrading your gear infernox...I can always buy your old equipment on the cheap when the GAS bites again in 3 months!

According to the wife... the Cort X-1 may not be sold as its my first guitar she has bought. She will more than likely get me the EVL as well... so she aint going to let me go of anything, unless I cut her in on the deal ?
MikeM
By the seems of it you've made up your mind already.
I personally think it doesn't matter, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between the two anyway.
I still think that it's really really idiotic to even look at a second guitar when you don't even have an amp, let alone a decent one.
infernox
I get what your saying Mike.
The amp will come, there is no doubt about it. This weekend more than likely.
MikeM
Most noobs fall into this trap. You think - HAH a sexy Gibson will make me sound like Slash / MT / whoever. It won't. It's widely accepted that a crap guitar through a good amp will sound better than a good guitar through a crap amp.
You're spending your money on the wrong things. This other Cort will sound pretty much the same as your current one.
Do yourself a favour and take your Cort to a proper guitar store and try some small tube amps - Ala Fender 600, HT5, etc instead of buying some crappy amp that you're going to sell in 2-3 months time.

Price of said amps?
Im looking at buying a Roland Cube 30x
MikeM
Vary from like R3k upwards I think. Also consider the Vox Valvetronix series like I mentioned in the other thread, it'll do way more for your sound than another dual HB guitar. And it's got lotsa goodies to keep you busy with.
Cool thing is the Vox models other amps pretty well and it's got a tube for some slight compression and warmth so it's a good beginner amp while you're looking for a sound that suits you.
Do us all a favour, get a decentish amp and save your cash for a month or two at least and then decide ?

Ive just seen a used Marshall MG30DFX... any good?
MikeM
Stratisfear has some experience with those. I'm sure he'll comment.
DonovanB
I tried the MG once. not too bad. But I think, depending on price you'd be better off with the Vox or the Roland cubes.

Valvetronix 15 is close to 4K. out of my immediate price range. ☹

Don't buy new if you don't have to.
Here's some decent amps.

I dunno what your budget is but something like this will be very nice for a beginner - intermediate player. Also, for this money, Wizard is selling his Blackstar HT-5. I have one. Nice!
infernox
Im looking at buy a Roland Cube 20x or 30x depending on the special I can get, but now seriously looking at the Blackstar Wizard is selling. Problem with classifieds is that time is not on a person's side and thus I dont have x amount now, but can have it later i.e. after a photograph a few parties/functions (which are in the calendar already)
