I'm one of those lazy beethaas who plays thru a floor processor, one cable in one cable out, one power supply, thats 3 connections to worry about, not like a zillion as some of these pics indicate.
So your problem is if something goes wrong with the multi effects, you'll have NOTHING, possibly not even an amp sound? ?
In that instance, you can go directly into the amp ?
I meant that if you don't have an amp, you'll have nothing, hence the "possibly" ?
I think it's healthy for every guitar player to play without any effects, and then add to taste.
Most of the pedalboards here, although stunning and surely of great use to the owners, seem like overkill to me.
Case in point - Highway Chile's pedalboard looks GAS-inducingly lovely, but it also looks like a Michael Flatley nightmare waiting to happen ? No offence HC.
I won't post mine then ?
I think there is truth in what you say, but it comes down to what I like to call "the Edge argument". It depends how you use effects, whether you build your sound from them or use them to add flavour.
Having said that, if I spent the same time I spend checking pedals out on my playing I'd be a better player! ? so as with everything I think there should be a good balance, and I like to think I'm getting there slowly but surely ? working on my discipline ?
Nowadays I practice straight into amp mostly (unless I use a looper) and only use my board when working on songs.
