Valve order from Tube Depot, need collaborators.

Hello All. So I think I may need some new valves soon and I see from other posts and people that www.tubedepot.com is a good place. Problem is, my HT-5 only uses 2 valves and I thought of getting 2 different 12ax7s to try and one 12bh7 which comes to a royal total of around $35. Looks like the 7-10 day shipping is $30 so I'll more or less pay double to get those 3 valves here. Nick expressed interest in piggy backing on my order so hence, will anyone else be interested in ordering some valves? To make things a bit easier it would make sense to have people who live in and around Cape Town join, else I have to go and faff around in post offices too much. On the other hand, if someone else in CPT is going to order some valves soon, can I piggyback on your order?

Well, the ones who are here are being good - they are not allowed to solicit sales directly on the forum. PM Matta for JJ. I've also bought lots from Mr Valve in JHB. They have Sovtek, JJ and EH as well as some NOS valves - I've bought some great Telefunken, GE, AEG and Philips from them in the past.

Valves must be had and the local shops don't seem to stock them in great amounts (strangely enough, seeing they're pushing many valve amps out the door)

Remember that most guys don't service their own amps - Even I'll only do my own preamp valves (unless I have a fixed bias amp, which I don't at the moment). The bigger stores have a repair department where most of their the valves will be kept. The smaller shops will likely send out amps to outside techs, who will keep their own stock.

Hey Guys
i'm a real newb when it comes to amps, :-/
I have an old '70s marshall head. I took it apart and it had 2 EL34's power tubes in it i didn't get to see what the others were..... ☹. is there usually a combination that rides with the EL34's? Any recommendations of other power tubes i could put in, that would enhance a rock sound?

I want to replace the tubes i have cause i don't know how old they are when i bought them from the previous owner.

Nope, apart from the fact that most guitar preamps use 12AX7 = ECC83.

Better EL34s. 6CA7s if the B+ is not too high, but don't bet on it.

You could also look at it this way: you want to roll some tubes because you would like to know if there is better tone in the amp.

If you mention more about the amp type, year etc. it might be possible to give you a list of the tubes in there.

Just keep in mind that the power valves usually have to be biased. Better done by a tech, if you don't know what that means ?

It looks like I need to order a few parts from them for a recap job, I'm extending this ONLY to Cape Town guys, and ONLY for collection from me, but if you still need parts let me know and we can split the shipping/duties, prob need to order the middle of next week.

I have just sorted Skywalker's TSL and he will be needing some new tubes for that and his Bassman.

I had a chat with Matta and he was out of EL34s, but indicated he might too be interested in a bulk order.

If anyone in Cape Town is keen on a bulk order from tubedepot, we can split the shipping, duties and clearance fees, however you would need to collect from me and everything would need to be paid before the order. I have ordered from them before on a Friday evening and the shipment has arrived on a Monday or Tuesday, so these guys are quick on the draw.

I actually only need a pair of tubes for my TSL and a few knobs for a buddies marshall amp that I can't seem to find here. I'll be ordering a few spare tubes though to make it worthwhile.

It's going to be pricey though :?

Spares for TSL100, DSL100, Bassman and Spider Valve.
