Hi guys, I'm interested in getting the Mike Dirnt Precision Bass. I'm a guitarist primarily, but will be playing bass sometimes in an occasional cover band. I already have an Ibanez SR300, which I love. But the Dirnt is really striking and apparently has nice punch, which would work well in rock surroundings (the cover band). Apparently, there was an earlier Fender MIM version, which got knocked in reviews because of poor workmanship and warping necks.
How do the top of the range Squier basses stack up? I've never owned a S (only MIJ Fenders) and this bass seems reasonably priced. Anyone?

I am not a huge fan of squire bass guitars, from experience with 5 or 6, over the years... even top of the line squires are not that great i thnk. What I did like more than any other bass over all the years, is a mexican P Bass, with some hotter output semour duncans in it. Simply was the best and precise bass sound to me.
Surprisingly i prefered it over the american deluxe jazz bass I played up late.
The Mike Dirnt bass to me is very snazzy looking but not of the best quality you could get for the money.
My 2 cents

I've played a few Squier P- and J-basses that were surprisingly good. However, for that kind of money, I'd probably look at the Cort basses first.

Tx guys. As always!
Problem being, that it's exactly the snappy looks that I like! You know, the hot-rodded retro type thing. And Alan, when I first expressed an interest in getting a bass, I had my mind set on a Jazz. You, however, advocated a P. My Ibanez has a comination of J and P pups, and I find that I just about only use the P pup... Thats why I suspect that I might really like the Dirnt signature, although it is rather heavy, apparently.
Unfortunately, there arent any in Gauteng and I will have to order one without trying it out first - which Im hesitant to do.
