This weeks challenge from X-rated Bob is.....
The new challenge puts no restriction on anything other than time signature: All entries must be in 3/4 time (IE "waltz time"). They don't have to be fit for ballroom dancing, but they must be in 3/4.
have fun ?
Soooo who's going to hook us up with some basic drum thingies? :?

I would think that classic sakkie sakkie, that "vastrap" thing, is in 2s rather than 3s.
Some examples of songs in 3/4
        • Piano Man - Billy Joel
        • Norwegian Wood - The Beatles
        • House Of The Rising Sun - The Animals
        • Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Neil Young
Also the introduction to Dire Straits "Tunnel Of Love" which quotes Rogers and Hammerstein's "Carousel Waltz".
I may be wrong, but the Animals' version of "House of the Rising Son" is in 6/8 time, no? Can we extend the 3/4 idea to 6/8?

I think it will be more interesting to have to stick strictly to 3/4 ?

            Oh my...
6/8 is tricky because there's two ways to count it. You can count it in threes OR in twos.

HOTRS is the former. You can count it in threes. So let's say that whatever you submit, when you tap or call out a count it's got to be in threes.

Sounds good to me! I'm definitely in ?

There was, circa 2001, a disco remake of Young's song that was in a relentless 4/4 beat. That must have taken some doing.
I'm definitely in on this one.. i got an idea already of what I'm going to do.. I just godda figure out if it's a song that I have bouncing in my head or if it's something I have thought up! ?
This is just for fun, not sure if it qualifies for competition rules etc. (Am I allowed to post in this thread? ??? )

Nice classy waltz at 200 bpm. And by waltz I obviously mean thrash metal. With some (not too much) shredding because I know X-rated Bob loves shredding so much. ?

This challenge reminded me of the 3/4 opening track on In Flames' excellent debut album, song called Moonshield. The opening faux-acoustic piece is a tribute to that, the rest is mine.

You must PM your entry details to Rene, also stating if you would like to be in the beginner or advanced catagory. ?

Excellent dude have deleted your link here because it gives others an unfair advantage Please PM it to me for entry in the competition as it well qualifies . I would recommend you enter in Category A
Ohhhhh ok. Didn't quite get the reason for the pm. Cool, sent it!
You know, if I get the time this weekend I'm going to get an entry in. I have a minor key waltz with the melody played on a lap steel (well... the Morgan lying across my knees and with a slide in use).

                                  Too much fun this is.
Ha! I challenged myself far more than I imagined. I've learned that my timing is far better when I'm doing the bouncing thumb thing in 4/4. In 3/4, with the thumb not alternating in the same regular way, things are a little sloppier. I'm putting an entry in though I'm not that happy with it. No time now (with a holiday looming ever nearer and preparations to be made) to change anything, but I'll put it out there because that's when I really hear what it sounds like. At least I got to play some slide. I hope there are comments and I hope I learn something.

When I get back from holiday.

By which time I will have given up the guitar (having seen Messrs Thompson and Simpson in concert).

So it's all for nothing anyway (or vanity, which is more or less the same thing).
                                      I've got my entry in!

Think we'll see lots of diversity this week. ? Excited to hear the entries.

This week's challenge inspired me to get off my butt and start working on this thing I've had swimming around in my head for a while now. My most ambitious little project so far!
