One adapater, one cable. Unless you have a lead made with a mini jack at one end you'd be hard pressed to find anything simpler or cheaper.

I don't know. Most sound cards have a mic input as well, but I don't know what kind of mic you can plug into that.

If your mic has a jack on the output connection side then getting a jack to mini-jack adaptor and plugging whatever mic you have into your sound card is unlikely to blow anything up.

MMMh yeah If it's too loud i can just turn mic sensitivity down... But I think If I have AUX out on my mixer that would work better!

most mixers have a "rec out" or a "tape out." look for that.

I wanted to try get them all and make it interesting thats why I opted for rock. If you listen carefully you will hear as many different types of harmonics. unfortunately with that amount of gain it all sounds the same. The last 20 seconds is tapping around the 24th fret

It's more fun throwing harmonics in every now and then. Trying to turn them into a melody is a mission. One I wont be repeating in a hurry.

Artificial harmonics are what they're called. ?

Yeah, that's really the problem with harmonics.. Flipping hard to get right, especially tapping them and it doesn't sound hard to the listener.. ? So, I agree, it's something that should be tastefully added into songs, not used to compose entire songs! ?

For those who were fortunate enough to watch Steve Morse (peace be upon him) with Purple last night you would how 3rd fret and less natural harmonics can be integrated into every part of your style including rhythm.

Steve Morse blew my mind ? was one of the greatest things I have ever seen ? I can't believe I was lucky enough to get to see him ? His vibrato was just immaculate, his tone was amazing, well he was just pretty much damn amazing in everyway. He absolutely lives up to his reputation!

Steve Morse, Shawn Lane and Eric Johnson are just the best when it comes to getting those harmonics on electric guitar IMO (Mattias Eklundh being a master at a whole wack of unique harmonics ?). Of course the list of acoustic players who do it well is a tad bit longer but I'll definitly vouch that Tommy Emmanuel would be on it ?

Over the weekend I was musing over the value of these competitions. They have made me extend myself into areas that I didn't think I could reach. Other folks have made similar comments. It's about more than the winning.

Because of an upcoming holiday I will not be able to participate in the next challenge. I might get time to get in an entry, but I won't be around by the time the voting finishes. And by that time I'll have seen Richard Thompson in concert and either seen Martin Simpson or be about to see him, and so I'll have taken a vow to never pick up a guitar again ?

I was very happy to see Ewald do so well. He's a relative newcomer to these competitions, but he has shown that he has great creative ideas. I was very surprised to not see Donovan do better. He's another guy with great musical imagination and instincts. He certainly got my vote and I thought he deserved more votes than he got.

I'll mail the next challenge through to Rene shortly.

+1, i just love the sound of his guitars! ? But his creativity is very refreshing and motivating.. but then, guys like Don, Alan, Rene, Guy, and Andrew all do the same for me.. Love hearing their stuff, it's always creative and motivating to practice! ?
