Well for me it is just PERFECT!

My wife and I are expecting a Baby next month and so I can't crank my amps and the included amps are a Blackface Fender and AC30, 2 amps I own, plus the 1/4" is actually a proper impedance connector unlike the cheaper PRS offering so i can plug my effects/pedal board into it into to headphone for jamming and approximate my settings with the amp sims, it is revolutionary.... also if my wife need me and I can't hear her, she can just call me on my phone, LOL.

Yep small babies in the house tend to have a significant impact on one's playing habits.... I can vouch for that! Nice thing is though, as they grow up they start to enjoy one's playing - if not too loud - and its not long before they want to join in. That's fun.

I'm actually serious about the travel guitar! OK not at airports and in traffic jams... ?... but it could be sneaked in at the office, or taken with on holiday. Much better than a laptop since you'll will be taking the phone along anyway. It's cool!

also if my wife need me and I can't hear her, she can just call me on my phone, LOL.

And she will do just that. My wife sends me a SMS from the bedroom when I'm in my music room and can't hear....

I posted on this a few days ago. It definitely seems like the dog's bollocks. If you've heard Amplitube Fender, you know how good their models have got. Just fantastic. If this version is as good, I wouldn't mind an iphone to have that portability.

Does anyone know if this will work on an Itouch? Itouches are a lot cheaper and more practical in SA I thinkg. An iphone has no real purpose to me here, because wifi is non-existent.

Also, where would one get the connector for this? Anyone know?

Like I mentioned, I think Amplitube has stepped way ahead since last year. So not only is this convenient, but if the models and processing are the same, you're getting the best amp sim sounds out there.

Just to add, an iPod Touch also has WiFi, the iPhone is basically a Touch, with a Phone, which I use as my day to day phone and love it, not the best phone in the world as a standalone phone but nice to have it all combined into one, one less thing to carry around with me.

Riaan, thanks for the well wishes, we are very excited about out baby boy who is due, June 16th, I'm off to London at the end of the week for 10 days and REALLY hoping he doesn't come too early as I'd hate to miss his arrival (I'm pretty sure my wife would be as well!).

As far as I know the IK agent in SA is BA Sound in Durban, not sure how much mroe inflated their price will be from the street price of $39.00 for the guitar interface, we will see, I may import one from the US/UK if they are wanting stupid money and may offer to do the same for others if I can combine them into my order.

Looks like a new Ipod Touch can be had for R2k. So for less than R3k you can get the whole thing. I'll consider this for myself IF AND ONLY IF the system has negligible latency. The demo looks really cool and if those are the actual sounds you can this is prob a better option than a "real" amp for most people.

The million dollar question. Already amp sims have got to the point that you have to be a shit hot producer, with a great room and great mics to beat the recorded sound of the best amp sims, imo. Check this out:

Live and coming out through a speaker cabinet? I reckon that the original tube amps will never be beat. But the differences may be so small, and the cost and inconvenience so great, that only pros with roadies will use them, I suspect.

damn, thats extremely close. So close it makes no difference. I think the only thing that will keep amps alive is the fact that they are robust (unlike computers, iphones etc) and its an appliance that stands on its own that you can take places and use (unlike computers with fiddly bits).

If someone can make (I think it may exist) a combo amp with a computer and software like this inside that is robust (mechanically) and reliable (software wise) the world of glowing bottles may come to an end. It'll be much cheaper too, if you don't need big output transformers etc. to make sound. At some point they'll add the different types of valves into these models too. Then what more do you want?

It'll be easy enough in the future for companies to build PCs optimised for guitar players - solid state storage, dedicated knobs, touch screen interface, all necessary inputs and outputs, etc.. But unlike a modern multi FX, you could run a variety of software on it.

People thought that digital photography would kill film. And for the average user, and specialised pros (particularly sports and press) it did. But for a lot of pros it offers massive advantages, and lots of amateurs are prepared to put up with the inconveniences for film's special characteristics.

I'm sure this amp modelling will go the same way. Most people will switch over. But a few will insist on a genuine tube amp. And pro studios will always use tube amps, I think. I can think of advantages to both. I want to get my bassman blackfaced one day for that great vintage tube tone, but at home, it's generally better to be able to plug into the Amplitube Fender '59 bassman sim, not worry about volume, and hear myself right in the mix with whatever I'm playing along to.
