Hi all,

I'm actually a cellist, but I live with a serious blues guitarist (who's also on the forum) and have mad love for the electric guitar and bass (though first prize would be an electric cello, of course! 8)). I live in Cape Town, have a B.Mus in Classical Performance from UCT and an LRSM, and have been playing (mostly classical) cello and piano for about 20 years. My dream job: to play in Apocalyptica, of course! (I wonder if they'd ever allow a girl to join their ranks?!)

I dig just about all music except hip-hop and hair metal; with blues, 'old-school' rock (AC/DC, Queen, Led Zeppelin etc) and jazz being at the top of my list. In the way of guitarists, I reckon Dan Patlansky, Albert Frost, Richard Pryor, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Brian May, Jimmy Page, John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert (to name but a few) all rule the roost!

See you around!
Wow, good to have someone of your stature on our forum cowbell! ?

A B.Mus from UCT, that's quite a degree! ? It was my goal at one point to go to UCT and get that, however, plans for my life have changed.. So, no more classical degree! ?

If you're ever performing in durban, be sure to let me know! ?
      Welcome!
but I live with a aspiring blues guitarist
      There, I fixed it ?

Studying music at UCT was intense but well worth it. If life took you in another direction though, don't regret it - just keep playing and enjoying it! (That's the one thing they don't teach there that you have to remember [in the classical department, atleast] - to enjoy what you're doing!) No gigs in Durbs for the foreseeable future but I'll keep you posted!

@ ezietsman: you just gave the game away ?
Hello MoreCowbel, and welcome. 35 years ago or so I played the cello. At the moment I'm looking to get myself an electric violin, not expensive one but there are some pretty cheap ones available and just to mess around a but like. Anyway, have a good time.
Hello MoreCowBell, and welcome to the forum.........looks like you're a serious (or are you also an aspiring?) photographer too.........!!

A friend of mine's wife is a cellist/pianist and (I'm not sure if she still does) plays/ed with the JHB Symphony Orchestra. I know she teaches music at a top girls school here in JHB though...... still strings I suppose........ ?

Hi Ray, ja - you can get very decent electric violins for very decent prices, and at local shops (in CT, atleast). I'd buy an electric cello in a shot if they weren't so damn expensive (in SA that is. Everyone has to import them which ramps up the price, sadly). I've tried to play my boyfriend's electric guitar, but my brain & hands were completely baffled by strings tuned in 4ths and the concept of picking - who would've thought?! (I find the bass much easier - maybe its a clef thing?) Enjoy your fiddle when you get it ?
                  Hi MoreCowBell....bonjour! Welcome!

Hi Aubs1, chances are ridiculously high that I know her/of her - the classical music world in SA is pretty small, and I grew up in Joburg, so I know most of the JPO cellists well!
                      Welcome to da fandamilly !!!!! 8) ? ? ?
                        hey hey, welcome.
I too know a violinist who just recetly moved to CT. She played bass as well. you people never stick to one intrument ?
Welcome - guitarists are just as mad as the gypsies. But, then you know that - you live with one. ?
                            Bonjour et bienvenue à toi.

I know! I've been taking them for years but have had no luck thus far - I'm still stuck with the damn instrument... hehe
Welcome. Looking forward to hearing you and ezietsman performing as a unique blues combo ?
